Dealing with the heat
You all know how hot is is - we have no AC in the house. I'm worried about Lilly tomorrow when DH and I are at work. She is crated in the dining room. Should we leave a fan on and point it at the crate? (we'd leave it a few feet away so it's not directly on top of her). We'll pull the shades down to to block the sun from coming into the room. I feel so bad leaving her in the heat
What to do?

Re: Dealing with the heat
I put the ac on when it's hot. Im sure the dog will be ok with out it but I don't want him to suffer. I would def put the fan on. Not directly blowing on him but on.

Do you have a basement or something you could put her in? Its usually cooler down in basements.

Re: Dealing with the heat
We leave a fan rotating in the EIK for Daisy, leave her ice in her water bowl, and she has the ceramic tlie to lay down on, so she stays cool.

Re: Dealing with the heat
we don't leave the ac on for the cats. I put on the ceiling fan in the kitchen and our den downstairs stays cooler than the rest of the house since it is partly below grade. They will be able to deal, as long as they are not in direct sunlight and have plenty of water.

Re: Dealing with the heat
does she have access to water? That is the most important thing, as long as she can stay hydrated she'll be fine. We don't use AC either & my dog stays in the house all day. I also have an outdoor bunny that gets really hot, I'm wetting his whole cage down now before i go to work. I put ice in the water dishes for all of the animals.

As long as there is plenty of water and the fan is on Lily will be fine! Don't worry!
We didn't get a chance to put the big AC unit in this weekend, so I kept all the shades drawn. I put on the ceiling fan and closed the bedroom doors. I also left her 2 bowls of water. She'll probably camp out on the hardwood floors today.

Re: Dealing with the heat
Dh has to keep telling me that before air conditioners existed, animals lived in the heat!
So - we dont leave the AC on for them when we are not home. I leave the blinds closed to keep the sun out. Also I make chicken broth ice cubes and put them in Murrays kong right before we leave so he has a cold treat.
Murray is not caged so he can go where ever is cool in the house throughout the day but since your dog is caged, the fan wouldnt be a bad idea

Re: Dealing with the heat
We keep Cooper in the hallway where the there is marble tile. We only have AC in our bedroom which we can't leave on during the day (we rent... landlords rules) but when it is on, the cool air that escapes the crack under the door cools the tile in the hallway.
We also leave him plenty of icey water (we leave ice cubes in the water when we leave so it stays cold for a while) and we keep a fan blowing on him.

Re: Dealing with the heat
Thanks for the responses everyone! I am such a nervous-nelly when it comes to Lilly.
She was fine in our dining room all day. The shades were down, we put an exhaust fan blowing out one of the windows and had the stand-up fan oscillating around her crate.
