Daycare moms..come in!! (nap related)
Sorry to beat a dead hourse...but...How do you make sure your DC gets enough sleep while at daycare?
DS only takes 2 or 3, 1/2 naps at daycare. Do you ask them to put him back to sleep..do you ask them to put them on a schedule???
Everyone answering Devon's post seems to be home with their DC. How do you do it when they are at daycare or a caregivers all day? (DS is coming home too tired and sleeping way too early some days.)

See now I have the opposite problem... DS only naps at daycare and will not nap at home! 
I send him to school so that he can get some sleep!

He's pretty good at napping at daycare. I think he gets more tired there. So much going on and he's all over so when he's tired I see on his sheet he usually takes one long nap (sometimes a 2 hour nap) and one short nap. If he only takes one nap I know he'll sleep in the car on the way home

tell them to tire him out! 
honestly what I think it comes down to is getting into a nap "routine", which we have to figure out and relay to daycare ORRR make it known to daycare that you'd like to start a napping routine and this is it...
2 hours of wake time- nap or bottle then nap or 3 hour wake time...nap. etc..etc..
Tell them you need their help. I said this to Joeys daycare yesterday, she said "we'll figure this out" and I know my Mom is helping too.

dd usually gets 2 naps at daycare, but they do put her in the swing or bouncy for most of them...that's why I didn't respond to your other post...she also naps on the way home from daycare b/c our ride is pretty long.

I'm lucky in that he usually sleeps through the night until 5 or 6 AM.
I think at this age, you can't force it and they sleep when they sleep. How does it do for you on the weekends?

He is SOOOO WIPED OUT!!! when I pick him up (sometimes) he is soo wiped I see it in his face and feel horrible for him!! It's like he's begging me to take him home and sleep!!
Im going to talk to them and see if we can start a routine.. I just wast' sure if this is what most Daycares do. KWIM.. or if I'd be asking too much!!

In that case, I would address with daycare and let them know that he needs more sleep and what solutions do they have.
I would never hesitate to ask on a matter like this.

I learned a long time ago, you can't!!!
My DD is typically a great napper at home, but at daycare..FORGET IT. She absolutely will not sleep there. She started daycare at 5 months old and is now 14 months old and more often than not, when I pick her up at the end of the day, there has not been one nap to be had.
It's really frustrating, but they can't force them to sleep, kwim?

my daughter is the opposite, she sleeps alot at daycare.
the daycare providers said to me "they thought she had a night job because of how much she sleeps during the day."LOL
I think first I would tell them how exhausted he is when he gets home, see what they can tell you about his days there. Maybe they can provide some insight into why his naps are so short & work with you on it.
Perhaps they can find him a quieter spot, comfy location.etc
I think I would try to pick their brains, work with them first.
I think it would be hard to get someone else to get them on a schedule at this point.

There was a time she would fall asleep in the car and then stay asleep for about 30 minutes after we got home. But we were also getting home a bit earlier then. Since then we changed daycares because my job moved an hour away, so now her daycare is closer to home, but we get home later.
We only get home an hour before bedtime, so once we get home, she eats dinner, gets about 15 minutes of play time then it's bedtime.
Fortunately, it has not interfered with her STTN. However, she is usually more restless during the night on the days she goes to daycare.
Both daycares have tried EVERYTHING to get my DD to nap, but she refuses it, screams and carries on. She's too big now for the swing, but they tell me she's perfectly happy during the day.
Some kids just don't do well napping in a daycare environment.

My son had a hard time napping at daycare, at first. He started at around 12 months. For the first weeks, he would not sleep at all. I was so stressed about it -- he had become a really great sleeper while I was home with him. This forced me to cut his naps down to one a day and make sure his bedtime was earlier. He eventually fell into a routine at daycare, but I honestly do not think I, or the caretakers, had anything to do with that.
