daycare
Okay so Ive noticed that daycare seems to runn between 260-315 a week. If I called some of these private #s of mothers working in their homes...do u think its cheaper then that or more expensive? I cant believe it costs this much!

Re: daycare
I believe its cheaper in the home and there is more flexibility. If you go through a day care center, if you pay for 40 hours and the baby is only there 32, they don't want to know about it, you still pay for 40...so if your child is sick or you go on vacation, you're still paying because you are paying for that spot. From what I understand people's homes (for the most part) are a bit more flexible.

Re: daycare
There are differences to consider: Unless the daycare provider claims the income you cannot use the $5k tax deduction on your taxes or the pre-tax dollar daycare accounts offered by some companies.
$1000 is the average cost of full-time daycare. Some are a bit more, but you really don't find it too much less. That is $6.25 an hour for a 40 hour week, which isn't really a lot of money to pay.
I pay for Molly's "spot" in the room so that it is reserved for her whether she is there or not.
SOME home centers may allow you to be more flexable but I haven't heard too many that you can call that morning and say that your child is sick and then you don't have to pay anyway. But you also have to consider that when you use a home center is the provider is sick who cares for your child? If the provider goes on vacation or needs a personal day then you may also need back-up care. So those are just things to ask when interviewing ANY center. Also, in a home center ask who enters the home during daycare hours such a repair man or family friends.

Re: daycare
my friend pays $240 a week for a home day care. There is some flexibilty with time but still strict when it comes to late pick up.

This is very true. My friend goes through this all the time. her home day care provider goes on vacation for most of the summer and she is left to find back up day care.
