Day 1 of potty training...now what do I do about nighttime????

Day 1 of potty training...now what do I do about nighttime????
Last night 3 y/o DS told me no more pull ups...he wanted to wear underwear. Today was day 1 and with constant prompting, he stayed dry all day. He only had one accident right before bedtime (my fault -- I was trying to stretch it out). However, he insisted on no pullups for bedtime. I even tried to call them bedtime underwear, but he would not have it and I didnt want to discourage the underwear. So he is now sleeping in underwear. He has never woken up dry (other than today for his 1 1/2 hour nap). Should I wake him up periodically to make him use the potty???? How often? He was averaging about every 1 1/2 hours today. What do you all recommend?

DS is 2.5 he has been in underwear for a month. He rarely has accidents.
We do diapers for night time. I tell him it's part of his pajamas. He naps for an hour and a half with diapers too.
But no way can he make it through the night yet. He sometimes makes it through the nap.

Is he a deep sleeper? Can u slide a pullup on while hes sleeping?
ETA: ill be potty training my 3yo DS all wkend starting tomorrow. Ill pray for us lol!

Is he a deep sleeper? Can u slide a pullup on while hes sleeping?
ETA: ill be potty training my 3yo DS all wkend starting tomorrow. Ill pray for us lol!
He has gotten into a real bad habit of sleeping by the door on the floor. I literally have to jam the door into him to open it so trying to keep him sleeping is unfortunately not an option. I think I'll just let him be for tonight and explor other options tomorrow. He did say he would wear nighttime underwear so maybe I can find something at target that is a cross between a pull-up and underwear?

I saw at target trainng underwear that had like padding or something on the inside. I saw at bbb too.
