Cvs test.... Updated... New update .... New update at bottom
Anyone have one - experiences? Pain?
I'm getting one tomorrow, so please keep me in your prayers.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I'm finally done. It was done vaginally - which I prayed for. Can't say it was the most joyous experience. Can't say I'd ever want to go through this again or wish it on my worst enemy.
Now just please keep me in your prayers that my baby is healthy and doesn't have this genetic issue.
10/3 - well my lo's cells have finally been cultivated and were sent today to the lab. The counselor informed me it could take another two weeks!!! I don't think I can wait that long as I'm still hiding my pregnancy 15w. I asked her to see if they could speed the process along as I was supposed to get prelim results a week ago, but they couldn't do it. On another note, my Ashkenazi genetic panel came back negative AND they tested Los cells for other genetic issues and that also came back negative. Please continue to keep me in your prayers!

Cvs test....
I had one after we got our NT scan results back. They had to go through my abdomen because of the location of a pretty big fibroid I have. I'm not going to lie, it wasn't awesome. Basically they put the needle in and then it takes them 30 seconds where they're moving the needle up and down to get a sample from the placenta. Once it's done the pain is over. I was a little sore and the next two days just felt as if I had done a ton of sit ups. All in all, yeah it sucked, but it's over pretty quick. Make sure you don't tense up and breathe!

Thanks. I'm freaking. I've ha nightmares over this. I hate hate hate needles. Ugh. I'm afraid I won't be able to deal with the pain.

I had it about a year ago - around 12 weeks after my 12 week NT scan showed an enlarged nuchal fold.
Honestly, the whole anticipation was the worst! I was squeezed in for my appt, so I had a long wait. It was horrible. Once I got called into the room, they did another extensive sono to check the position of the baby and to double check the findings of the baby's neck thickness. Then the doctor came in and spent so much time explaining what she was going to do, how she would do it, the bad stuff like the rates of miscarriage, etc. She was so thorough, it actually put my mind at ease. My DH is a huge baby who hates needles, and he chose to wait in the waiting room, but he was allowed in if I wanted him to be there. I was ok with that. I just wanted it over with.
I didn't find the needle hurt at all, and the process itself wasn't very long at all. She let me see the monitor the whole time and I could see the baby and she talked me through it, which made it go that much faster. When she was done, she showed me the sample and said I was good to go! I just took it easy that afternoon, I had no cramping and no side effects at all. The best part was getting the great news that everything was perfect and my DS is now a happy and healthy 6 month old!

Cvs test....
Don't worry about the pain, it's over relatively quick and if you don't tense up your stomach like I did in the beginning you'll probably be better off than I was!!!

The genetic counselor called - just my luck - they didn't get enough of a sample. They do have enough to cultivate (not enough for the preliminary). Guess ill be *patiently* waiting the full three weeks.

The Cvs wasn't for my NT scan - that came back all negative. The CVS was for chromosomal issues non related to the scan, but thanks for your prayers. Hopefully prayers will work!
