CVS- Chorionic villus test?
I was just curious as to how this test is administered. Is it a blood test and sono? Or just a blood test? How quickly do you normally get the results?
ETA: I will be getting this done at Madonna
TIA

Re: CVS- Chorionic villus test?
I think it is more invasive than that.
Here's the Wiki article on it:
CVS
From AmericanPregnancy.Org
How is the chorionic villus sampling (CVS) performed? CVS is a diagnostic procedure which involves removing some chorionic villi cells from the placenta at the point where it attaches to the uterine wall. There are two ways that samples are collected.
Transcervical: An ultrasound guides a thin catheter through the cervix to your placenta. The chorionic villi cells are gently suctioned into the catheter. This is the most common method.
Transabdominal: An ultrasound guides a long thin needle through the abdomen to your placenta. The needle draws a sample of tissue and then is removed. This procedure is similar to that of amniocentesis.
The CVS procedure collects larger samples and provides faster results than amniocentesis. Results may be received between one to seven days.

Re: CVS- Chorionic villus test?
I had this done after getting the results of my NT scan... it is an invasive test.
There are two ways of doing it, for me they went through my abdomen with the needle, they can also go through your cervix. The difference between this and an amnio is that they are taking a sample of the placenta rather than amniotic fluid.
If you have any questions feel free to FM me!!

Re: CVS- Chorionic villus test?
I had the CVS. I had the needle through the abdomen. It's the same as an amnio, except that the sample is tissue taken from the placenta, whereas an amnio is taken from the amniotic fluid. The CVS tests are usually performed much earlier as well, in week 12.
I got the FISH results in about 2 days and the full panel a little over a week later.

CVS- Chorionic villus test?
I had this done when I was pregnant with my DD in lieu of the NT test since I have had losses due to chromosomal problems. I had the sample taken through my cervix since my placenta was towards my back.
I also had it done at Madonna. They are great there. Had FISH results in less than 48 hours and the rest back in about 10 days. While it was unpleasant, it was nice to know so early in the pregnancy the gender and that all was well with the baby.

Re: CVS- Chorionic villus test?
Wow... I didnt know it was an invasive test. When I spoke to the doctor at my first appt it didnt seem like it was "a big deal" per say. I feel like I need to really get some more info on this....
We find out the gender thru this test too? Can my S.O be in the room with me during this test? Im nervous now

Yes, you'll definitely find out the gender and your SO can be in the room with you. Honestly, it does hurt but it's over in 30 seconds (literally 30 seconds).
