Cutting bottle before bed
Dd2 is 16 mos., and we really need to start cutting out the bottle before bed. It's her only bottle of the day. She won't drink milk from a cup, and I've tried to do a snack before bed, with a book and cuddle on the couch. But she won't go to sleep. Any other thoughts or ideas?

Cutting bottle before bed
Following. My 2 year old won't drop the bottle either and insists on one when he wakes in the middle of the night. We've created a monster I'm leaning towards going cold turkey. I need to pick a weekend that we can just not sleep.

I'd give her a little more time...I tried to cut the bottle with my older DC around that age and she went apeshit. Tried again 3 months later and she was totally ok with it.

Cutting bottle before bed
It took us a while for DS1 to stop his bedtime bottle (it was the only bottle left to eliminate). I think he was close to 2 yrs old but once it was time, we did it cold turkey. I thought we were gonna have a nightmare of a night but it actually went pretty smoothly, maybe because he was older?

I wouldn't rush it. My DS was 2 when we finally got ride of the bottle completely.
We forgot to bring a bottle on a visit to my parents in FL so he was ok with the cup there and so we just went with it when we got home.
16 months is still fine to have that one bottle if it avoids a breakdown in everything else!!!!!

Cutting bottle before bed
we aren't doing a bottle (using sippy cups) but we are giving a bedtime cup.
We went cold turkey for middle of the night ones at maybe 18 mo? and then we went back. i hate that we did this!!!
and now we are potty training.... and he wakes up at night bc he is wet even a little. so we need to night train. but that doesnt work with a bedtime bottle. fml.

I have a 16 month old who takes a bedtime bottle too - I'm thinking we are not even going to tackle that battle until closer to 2. Is there a specific reason you want to stop now?

We were finally able to get rid of the bottle at 2 1/2, but DD still has milk in a cup at bedtime.

We just went through this and it went surpisingly well. DD was 19 months.
Basically I brought her her milk in the sippy. She flipped! I explained that the babies have the bottles now and that she now gets her milk in the cup.
She cried more.
I put her in her crib to relax/cry it out and put the cup in there with her.
I watched from afar. She looked at. Touched it. Said, "milk" (like she was convincing herself it was ok lolll)... and that was it!
I wouldn't rush though. Try it out and if you have to try again in a month, then wait.

Don't fix what ain't broke!
She's only 16 months old and that's still young. Also, it's milk. You aren't feeding her a cup of sugar before bed. DS took a bottle only before bed until he was nearly 2. I tried a couple of times before that, but he always asked for his milk, so I gave it. When we did stop, he didn't even notice. He was ready.
DD was always a take it or leave it kind of kid with the bottle. She gave it up on her own somewhere around 15 months.
Every child is different. If your daughter still wants her bottle before bed, I'd still give it.

The doctors recommend they come off the bottle around 13 mos. because of all the sugar in the milk basically sitting in their mouths overnight. I think it's a general concern over bottle rot. My dd1 hated her bottle, and never even took to milk, so bottles were done by 12.5 mos. Yhis one loves hers!

My DD is the same age and I keep saying the same thing. I'm just dreading trying because I know it won't go well. I still sit in the glider with her while she has her bottle and she'll often hand it to me, point to her crib and say "bed" and then go right to sleep. She's such a good sleeper and goes down without a problem so I'm afraid to rock the boat.
When we cut the morning bottle we got her new minnie mouse sippy cups which she was excited about and I think that helped.

I would maybe try and see if she'll take the bottle (or sippy cup) a little bit before the bed time routine and add in tooth brushing before bed. I started brushing after the bottle (with just water for now) to try to minimize that concern.

I think the concern with that is if you are allowing them to fall asleep with the bottle or allowing them to suck on it for long periods of time. Is she just drinking her milk quickly during her bedtime routine or is actually drinking it in her crib to fall asleep?
We also started brushing DD's teeth around 13/14 month after her milk.
I have to say we made such a big deal over trying to get rid of the bottle and DD was so attached and hysterical that we could just never go cold turkey. Finally around 2 I was able to cut out day time bottles (she still had 1 bottle of milk at night) and she refused to drink milk in any other cup. I figured one day I would just have to get rid of the night time bottle and she would never drink milk again, but about a month ago at 2 1/2 she just one day declared she's a big girl now and started drinking milk from a cup. I felt like I had wasted so much time worrying and getting upset for nothing, when she was ready she happily gave it up.
