Cut off time to do yardwork on a Mon nite?

It's 9:16pm on a Monday night. My neighbor (and his barking dog) is outside using a weed wacker. It's pretty loud. What time do you consider to be the cut off time for loud yard work during the week?

(Side note, his dog barks every time he turns on the week wacker. Every time the dog barks, he screams STFU. I want to scream STFU to him. DS#2 woke up 1x already.)

Am I just an old fart?

most town have a no noise after 11pm so i would guess if you can see your lawn at that time to mow it, they are within their rights...

I would think most people would stop doing yard work as soon as it got dark. He sounds like a jerk...

I always stop around 7:00 or 7:30 i feel like most ppl are starting to settle in for the night around that hour.

I say once the sun goes down, it's time to call it quits, especially if you're working with loud equipment.

Sun down is the courteous time to stop. What hours does your town allow for noise?

I would be more annoyed with him screaming at the dog than weed wacking. Why didn't he just bring the dog in the house?? People!

i hate your neighbor. you need to start filing complaints so this all gets tracked.

My DH wouldn't mow the lawn or do that kind of yard work after dark - first of all, it's not safe, how the heck do you see what you are doing?

Second, it's kind of obnoxious to listen to if you are the neighbor.

That being said, I have a neighbor who mows or weedwacks at 7-7:30am on the weekends, which I find annoying, but whatever.

We have a landscaper so it gets done on Tues at 8 am and is all done in 20 mins.

I think that is late since people that have kids are getting settled in. And the yelling at the dog is ridiculous. Put the dog in the house!!

I wish my neighbor would do it all at once. He doesn't work and he is moving, edging, weed wacking everyday. he also had his circular saw out cutting something at 6:45 AM last Saturday

I dont get home until 7 so we dont settle in until much later than the norm, by the time dinner is made, etc. We have landscapers so we dont do yard work but if we did I think up to 9 - 9:30 would be ok.

I agree with everyone else about sundown. 9:15 on a weeknight is really discourteous IMO.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I'm sure that our town does have a noise ordinance, but my Dh doesn't want me to do anything right now. I totally understand that I go to bed early and don't expect the neighborhood to be completely quiet, but we should respect for our neighbors and just want them to do the same.

This is for Brookhaven

The Brookhaven Town noise ordinance prohibits the use of lawn mowers and other power tools between 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. on weekends and holidays. The operation of heavy equipment (e.g. construction, excavation and earthmoving machinery) is prohibited between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. weekdays and between 6 p.m. and 9 a.m. on weekends and holidays.

In addition, Article XXII in the bylaws states that "nuisances include, but are not limited to, noise, smoke, noxious odors, barking dogs and other bothersome animal noises".
