"You say tomato, I say tomato..."

From the NY Times: "On Saturday, for the second straight day, Florida crushed its previous record for new coronavirus cases, reporting 9,585 infections. Another 8,530 were reported on Sunday."

So it might not be 10,000 cases exactly, but 9,585 is close enough. It's called rounding up. It's real. It's contagious and people are confirmed having it. So how can it be a political stunt? If 8k had it yesterday and 8k have it today and 8k have it tomorrow... eventually the hospitals can't keep up.

 But it's not 10k a day...

The numbers are still significant - but, this represents all tested, and doesn't separate out hospitalizations.

Our numbers would've been higher too during our peak if we tested more people.

Also, it's not like all of those 8K cases will require hospitalization. That is the main number to be concerned about when saying the hospitals won't be able to keep up. Even at our worst, and we were worse than anyone, they barely used the ship that was sent and the Javitz center, etc.

I’m soooo curious to see if this just disappears after the election. Just like swine flu ran it’s course in the media, Ebola, etc... sadly I’m hoping this is just political and not a “new normal” bc I can’t live like this any longer

  Are you being serious?
Well you are lucky none of your family members have had this. Have you heard of Nick Cordero? Do you pick up a newspaper and read it? 10,000 new cases PER day in Florida. They had to reclose all the beaches and restaurants. Because people like you aren't taking this seriously. It's not political. It's a GLOBAL pandemic. It's not going to "disappear" until people wear masks or stay home.

I have been following Nick Cordero and as sad as the story is, are we supposed to worry more because of this one person? I am not downgrading but that is like saying l need to get a flu shot because so and so got sick and/or died.

This. And if it is political, it's because of many Republicans and their "but my freedom!!!" attitude which is going to drag this thing out and out because they won't put on a goddamn mask.

And before someone jumps down my throat, I'm not talking about all Republicans. I'm sure some wear masks. But frankly, every single progressive person I know is very careful to protect others and is following the rules even if they are just running in the store for 5 minutes.

No one said we are going to be inside forever. And we ARE opening up. My son is starting baseball and I'm thrilled. He had a scrimmage the other day and I'm relatively happy with how everything went. Most people were smart about it and social distanced as per the new rules. My husband just ate out IN a restaurant today for the first time since everything and he said it went fine. So people who are all"OMGOMGwe'regoingtobeinsideforever" just sound ridiculous.

But some people - and I'm talking in general, both here and in the greater society - need to grow the hell up.

And our government has fuccking blood on its hands. No coordinated federal response at all which is why we're where we are now. And where the hell is Devos with at minimum some kind of coalition to coordinate plans for back to school? These people need to do their effing jobs. November can't come soon enough.

Yes I’m serious. Trump wants less testing (so low numbers) cuomo wants literally every single person tested (so higher numbers). It’s a pissing contest to validate the actions they are carrying out.

Cuomo- malls and gyms can’t open unless they get some filtration system ....yet other places like casinos (that generate money for the state) can operate without them? Hotels can be open? Sounds political.

Protests are ok? But a small gathering for a funeral was not? A graduation? Sounds political. Not tracing people at protests? Political.

It’s a giant political mess. Both sides are trying so hard to be right and it’s create a divide between “it’s just a flu” and “you are killing people for not stopping the economy”

Just saw DeBlasio say schools will be opening in NYC in the Fall

And cuomo will say that's not DeBlasios decision in 3,2,1...honestly, I've given up hope of NY schools opening in September. I'm pretty positive most kids in the US will be home come September.

If they do go back it’s most likely going to be one of those dumb hybrid models. I think that’s why they are saying the kids will return. But as you can see they don’t say how. We already get the “kids will return to school, but it will be likes it’s never been before”
I want to scream when I read or hear that, worse than the stupid “new normal” shi!t.
I think the overcrowding, especially in NYC, is why everyone is being quiet because they don’t how it can work. Not even a hybrid model seems feasible for some of the schools in these urban areas.

My son is going back to school in September but it’s looking like one of the two hybrid models:
-1 week in school / 1 week remote
-alternate remote / home during the week

-And masks will be required for students in classrooms.

These both suck because I will be going back to work and I will have to be in the office. Have no clue who is watching this kid when he is home. But at this point I give up.

Well from the survey they sent around the other day, most people said they want the kids back in September so thinking they will go back but maybe with some more cautious things than before.

Quite possibly one of the most ridiculous thing I have read on here! If you don’t want someone jumping down your throat read what you post. You are implying that only “some” (as one not many) Republicans wear masks? Every republican I know wears a mask and many did so prior to it being mandated. Pretty sure the vast majority of people are wearing masks now. My mother who is the most republican person I know wears a mask and has since early March. You should rewind time and watch the early protests with all of your “progressive socially responsible” friends out there half of them with no masks on right on top of each other while the virus was barely under control in NY. I swear sometimes I think I live on a different planet than some of you guys with your bible toting KKK republican friends and family members. Every republican I know is typically pretty socially liberal and fiscally conservative and is more than happy to protect themselves and others by wearing a mask.

 Agree.
I know many many republicans. Some very right wing, conservative. My boss, my father, my neighbor and they are all cautious and wear masks religiously.
Probably more cautious than I am.
What a sweeping generalization. And how ignorant.
I cannot imagine making a sweeping generalization like that about a political party, or a race, or a religious group and it being ok.
 Talk about stereotyping.
And I also have never gone anywhere on Long Island and not seen everyone in their masks. From supermarkets to restaurants.
I have been in restaurants multiple times a week since they opened- in all areas of Long Island and everyone has worn a mask to their table, to the bathroom and when they were leaving.
 Same at the beach.
Same with every store I have been in since March.
Not sure where all these Republican mask scofflaws are.
 I certainly haven't seen any.

Ohhhhh ye of the fake "libertarian socially liberally fiscally conservative" nonsense. You cannot be socially liberal when your financial conversatism prohibits liberalism. Like do you even know what that is? This country doesn't have a liberal or progressive movement despite what people think they like to call themselves. We have neoliberals and centrist democrats, but someone like myself is a leftist.

FOR EXAMPLE If you are someone who thinks they are "not racist" but you vote republican and you vote for republican politicians and financial legislation that continue to oppress, silence, and further race-based financial inequities that have brought us to today then I have news for you....you ARE in fact racist by continuing to uphold the system of white supremacy. See how easy that is to understand?

I couldn't care less if a miserable b!tch like you doesn't believe me.
How's that? Dramatic enough for you?
Go crawl back you in your hole and do us all a favor.

Posted by JennpThis.

 This 100%

I said not all. But people read what they want to read.

Your anecdotes mean nothing. I couldn't care less.

There are numbers that back up what I'm saying.

Look at the red states vs. blue states and the numbers of increasing cases.

 The data says it all.

I am sorry I legit do no believe you. There are plenty of people not wearing masks. Your fake horror at hyperbole and dramatics is back in action. Can't wait to see what "mean girls meme" you're gonna use or call me a loser or obsessed for responding your post

 Great post.

Fiscally conservative and socially liberal means "these are nice ideas, but I'm not willing to do any work or stick my hand in my pocket to support them."

In that case, your "socially liberal" plus 2.75 will get you on the subway.

 It's meaningless.

There was no need to bring politics into this post. This is the problem with America. Nothing can be discussed without people starting to hurl insults or claim they know what other people stand for. I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I wear my mask and stick my hand in pocket plenty so stay in your lane and keep your comments to yourself.

Just saw DeBlasio say schools will be opening in NYC in the Fall

You knew it wouldn’t last long, just posted in Newsday:

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city is preparing for an in-person reopening of its schools in September, with all the precautions intended to keep the coronavirus at bay, though Gov. Cuomo's office said the mayor does not have the power to make that decision.
