Crockpot: Am I doing something wrong?
Every type of meat I cook in it comes out extremely dry. Is this just a halmark of using the crockpot? I try all these recipies that people say are so yummy (I made Pork loin with apples last week, and while the sauce tasted good the pork was dry as could be. So my question is, am I doing something wrong? I typically use the low setting for 6-8 hours (depending on recipie) and then the crockpot goes to warm till we get home.

I would say it may be cooking too long.

Re: Crockpot: Am I doing something wrong?
I have the same problem. I have tried cooking it for different times but it seems very dried out or very soupy.

Crockpot cooking should lead to extremely moist meat. Maybe reduce your cooking time, or if you are using a low fat meat, increase your liquid.

Re: Crockpot: Am I doing something wrong?
I guess the problem with reducing the time is that I am out of the house at 7 am and don't return until 7 pm. While I don't "cook" the meat for 12 hours, once it get through the cook time I leave it on warm. The only meat that I cook that has ever come out anywhere near moist is corned beef, and I just fill the crockpot with water and cook.

Re: Crockpot: Am I doing something wrong?
Yeah I think you should try it on a weekend when you will be home sooner,to see the difference. The meat continues to cook even if you turned it off - especially covered like a crock pot is. So to have it set to warm for anything over 7 hours is going to continue to cook and dry it out. the only thing this method may work on is a brisket or as you said a corned beef - because they are super marbled(fatty) and the fat keeps the meat moist.

I have the same problem and I don't cook things as long as the recommended times either. I have found that fatty meats work the best such as pot roasts, pork butts and chicken thighs vs chicken breasts.

Re: Crockpot: Am I doing something wrong?
I think you dont have enough broth in with the meat. I always put a few cups of chicken of beef stock in hth

I'd say try adding more liquid. How large is your pot? larger pots and larger pieces of meat need more liquid.

This is the reason why I have been so hesitant to try the crock pot during the week, most recipes don't even take 8 hours and the instructions say not to have it on warm for more than 3-4 hours as it is...doesn't really help me out which is too bad.

Yup, sounds like you are cooking it way too long. I wish that I had one with a timer to start and finish.

Re: Crockpot: Am I doing something wrong?
Maybe you're cooking it too long. I made the Pork Loin and Apples recipe on here and cooked it for 6 1/20 7 hours and it was delicious! the meat was moist, not dry. Try cooking it for less time. Good luck!
Which crockpot do you have?
