crib spinoff- newborns falling asleep on their own
Do yours do it? We can put ds down drowsy but awake and he can fall asleep on his own. Dd is another story. You put her down and she starts to whimper which eventually turns into full blown crying. So I let her fall asleep on my chest and if its been less than a half an hour or so, she'll wake up and whimper again. Am I setting myself up for failure down the line? They're 7 weeks.

crib spinoff- newborns falling asleep on their own
DD didn't really fall asleep on her own until 8 or 9 weeks, maybe even a little later than that (other than in the swing). I remember stressing about nursing her to sleep at night around 6 weeks and trying to break her of it but I would always give up within a day. I think it's still too early to worry about forming bad habits. Give her a little more time. By 3 months, DD had found her thumb which also made it easier for her to fall asleep on her own.

Re: crib spinoff- newborns falling asleep on their own
One does, always has. I swaddle and hold her for a minute, say goodnight, she stares at the ceiling and I leave the room. Sometimes she wants a paci but its rare. The other one needs to be swaddled and rocked in the rnp or lately, Ive been swaddling after their last feeding and putting her in her swing with a paci and she passes out. Then I can move her to the rnp no problem. I know this is a bad habit for her but ill do it until she can cio. Im not ready to do that to her yet at 3 mo. (even though ped said I could).
I have put them in their cribs after their last feeding to play and they have fallen asleep on their own unswaddled but it didnt last long.

Re: crib spinoff- newborns falling asleep on their own
My DS is the same way. If I put him down awake, he's ok for a few minutes, then starts whining, then starts screaming. I was nursing him to sleep for naps but I stopped that last week because it was messing up his feeding schedule (he was never really taking a "full" feeding). He won't just fall asleep on me either. So now, I swaddle him and sit in the glider and hold the binky in his mouth. It takes about 5 minutes (sometimes longer) for him to fall asleep, and he cries through the whole thing

DS sometimes falls asleep on his own (he's 3 months old) for naps, and will usually fall asleep on his own for bed time.
I think the fact that he has a bedtime routine (always at the same exact time each night) really helped.
We tried a naptime routine but we have yet to be consistent with it.

Re: crib spinoff- newborns falling asleep on their own
At 7-8 weeks I swaddled and rocked DD with her projector/music on for naps.. Now at almost 15 weeks, no more swaddle and I try to let her fall asleep on her own... There is usually some crying involved but not screaming. Sometimes she needs a little rocking buy I don't mind it.For bed I nurse her to sleep.
