Crib question - drop down side/rollers?
ok, for non tall people how important is the drop down side?
I went to BRU tonight with Dh thinking id find one of those and thought most of the drop down side cribs seemed flimsy- and the ones that didnt seem so bad, i didnt like the pattern..
and whats up with some of the cribs having rollers on the bottom of them?

Re: Crib question - drop down side/rollers?
I have a drop down.. I like it. And yes, it has wheels.
I know that most of the time I keep it down because I change her in her crib. I also love bending over and kissing her tiny cheeks !!! I tried that once with the side up.. OW! But I also like having the option to put it up as well. We sometimes put her bumper in and pull the rail up. With the rail down the bumper doesnt fit as well.
You've seen mine in person. That being said I total feel you about the 'flimsy' comment. It took awhile for me to really find one I liked. Mine's pretty darn sturdy!
I have wheels too. With the mattress in it, the crib doesnt move. I have it set against one wall only. Still its pretty darn stable. HOWEVER, I love having the wheels as she loves to toss her paci out and it will of course fall BEHIND The crib. So its easier to get with the wheels. And changing batteries on that wall side is easier.. and also taking off or putting on the bumper.

I'm short, I have the drop down. I don't think it is SUPER important, but I like.
As for the wheels, those I love. DS' crib is up against the wall and to change the sheet I need to roll it around to get to the back, so that I love.

I got the drop side bc I liked the traditional look, and I am short, and I knew I would have trouble with the newer style. Mine is very sturdy and does not have wheels-- Ragazzi Pompeii.

Re: Crib question - drop down side/rollers?
my ds # 1 doesn't have a drop down side but with #2 on the way i def. wanted one. my mom is 5feet tall and can't really get my toddler into it.
i got this one, it's expensive but is a convertable crib (toddler bed then full bed) and it is beyond solid with no wheels.

Re: Crib question - drop down side/rollers?
With DS i have the drop down which is great considering i am 5 ft tall and prego!!!! and my crib also has wheels which is good so you can move it around to clean and stuff. mine also has the locks so it doesn roll... with DD i just bought the one that doesnt drop down so we will se how that goes.
FYI Bellini has great cribs that is where i bought DS & DD's cribs and they are having a sale buy one get the second 50% off.

Re: Crib question - drop down side/rollers?
My crib doesn't have drop down sides and its a real pita. I wouldn't buy another one with stationary sides. I am about 5'7 and if I was shorter the drop down sides would be a real must.

Re: Crib question - drop down side/rollers?
when i went to BBB shopping for cribs they gave me important about drop down cribs that i had no idea about. let me try to explain it.
let's say a "regular" crib's height is 4.5 feet where you put the baby in. a "drop down" crib would start up at 5 feet and lower to 4.5 feet. (i'm making up the numbers to make my point). so drop down cribs lower to the point that regular cribs are already at. they are higher than regular cribs when they are in the up position.
the lady in BBB showed me that with all the cribs i was interested in because my mom was insisting i needed a drop down crib because that's what she had with me. i wanted a convertible one, so when the lady showed us, my mom backed off because they don't go any lower than normal.
hope that helped

Re: Crib question - drop down side/rollers?
we had the same issue, I wanted a crib with drop down sides because I am only 5'4. But they all felt like they could fall apart at any moment.
We got a convertible because it felt sturdy like furniture and I love it. Until we just lowered it to the lowest setting (DS is 1) I could put him in there with no issues. Now if he is sleeping in my arms its a little harder to put him down gently, but overall I wouldnt trade it.
