Re: Credit Card debt??

We used to pay them all off when they came....until the wedding, a house, my animal rescues and re-homing, and DH going to medical school (he only works per diem as a medic twice a week)....and well, my measly income as a nyc cop and a per diem medic, just don't cut it every month anymore.

We've actually gotten to the point where certain bills get paid every OTHER month.

But, once he's done....we'll be sitting pretty with an excellent household combined income---with my MA completed and hopefully moving on to the Feds.....we'll be out of debt in the next 6 years.

So, yeah....you're not the only one Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Credit Card debt??

we have a decent amount- we are working on paying them all off

it's manageable but it pisses me off

I already paid off $10K years ago- but when I moved to the city I could not afford to live the way I was used too

it has only made my credit score better

my advice is to knock out the smallest ones first- then us that money to pay off more and more

you get a sense of accomplishment from paying off a bill that motivates you to keep going

take them all out of your wallet- i don't walk around with anything but a debit card now

no more Amex- I realized I could have paid off all my cards with what I have given Amex alone this year- so I am cutting back alot - if I don't need I am not buying it

Same here... DH cannot tolerate any debt. The fact that we have a mortgage keeps him up at night. He's paid it down substantially in the past year.

I actually took out a debt consolidation loan with my bank and I'm paying off an interest free CC... slowly but surely.

Re: Credit Card debt??

We're in a lot of credit card debt, but we're working very hard to pay it all off right now.

EVERY extra cent every month goes to credit cards.

We had a couple necessary home improvement projects last year, along with our washer, dryer and oven breaking.

Plus $11,000 for our In Vitro. I'm still waiting on $8,000 from Cigna, so that will help a lot!!!

Re: Credit Card debt??

I have about 1K right now - I usually pay it off when it comes in but this is our honeymoon so I have been paying it off for a few months. Should be paid off by the end of Nov and then I will have no CC debt. FH on the other hand.......is another story!

My Dad told me from a very young age that the worst thing I could do for myself financially is to carry credit card debt. He got himself into a bad situation with it at one point in his life, so I was always paranoid about it. I have never had credit card debt.

Re: Credit Card debt??

The years after college graduation, I managed to rack up over $25k in credit card debt! I used a debt management company to consolidate them and it took me 4 years to pay it off. I am not debt free and my credit score is really good. It was the best thing I ever did.

Now I only use my debit card. If I don't have the money, I don't buy it.

Re: Credit Card debt??

We ebb and flow throughout the year ... some months we carry a balance, some months nothing ... I don't really tap into savings for any of it though, since it's always a small amount (under $2,000) and is paid off in a month or two.

Re: Credit Card debt??

The only debt we have right now is my student teaching tuition...it's all on a zero percent credit card and we hope to get it paid off by this summer...since it's on the zero percent, we have been making very low payments..it feels like forever... but I can't wait to be DEBT FREE!!!

Re: Credit Card debt??

I had racked up close to 30k in credit card debt while in college. Since then I have managed to pay it all off and love living debt free. When I got married I took on my DH's 11k in cc debt and now that I am in control of the finances we are making huge payments and should have a zero balance within the next 2 years.

Re: Credit Card debt??

I had a lot of CC debt, but have took measures to pay it off. One of the things I did was take out a personal loan to pay off a high interest credit card, since the interest offered by the bank was much lower, and also I am required to pay a certain amt. each month so I know it will be paid off in 5 years.
