Crazy 3.5 month old -- need help!

My 3.5 month old DD has been a very unhappy baby from day 1. She cries more than any infant should and it is really affecting the quality of everyone's life in my house, especially my older DD. I feel so bad for the little one, bc she is visibly uncomfortable, but I have no idea what is really bothering her. The doctor keeps saying colic, but now that she is approaching 4months, I question why this is still going on. I EBF her and have gone on a dairy free diet, eliminating almost all hidden dairy too, even though the doctor doubts that she has a milk allergy bc she is gaining well, has no rashes, doesn't spit up, and doesn't have diarrhea. She also has some trouble pooping, and sometimes needs to have her rectum stimulated so she will go (per doc's orders from last visit) although the doc doesn't want us to do that anymore, which has made her crazy even more! I don't know what i am even looking for -- maybe other stories of babies similar to mine who stopped the craziness and went on to be happy babies. I just feel so miserable and desperate for some answers. I will be taking her to a GI next week, by the way.

Some babies are just extra sensitive to any kind of stimulation. It could be colic. She will outgrow it most likely. I know it seems really hard now, but just hang in there. It gets better.

It could be a soy allergy or reflux...

THIS was my dd EXACTLY! My pediatrician had us try everything from alimentum, me eliminating dairy and soy, and even put the poor baby on reflux meds, even though she did not spit up.... I thought it was weird, but her dr said she didn't have to spit up...

FINALLLY I brought her to a ped gastro dr at cohens children's hospital. I thought I wasted my time going their when all she had to say was that she had an immature gastro system and needed to poop every day, preferably 3 times a day (she was going twice a week).

She said her twins had the same thing and promised me that between 4 and 5 months she would be a different baby, and she was!

Until then though, she said to give her a suppository everyday, that she would not become dependent on them (she said that was bs), and that it wouldnt hurt her.

I took dd off the reflux rx, and alimentum right away.

I could give you the Gastrointerologists info if you want.

My DD was like that too. It's so hard to deal with. I couldn't imagine how a baby could cry so much & how it could be normal. The ped wasn't too concerned. He said she had a touch of colic & reflux (she did spit up, arch her back & seemed very uncomfortable.) He told us to give her a suppository everyday & I hated to do it, especially since she was still so cranky all the time anyway. She slowly got better by about 5 months. Hang in there, I know it's rough & you probably want to run away from home but it will get better!Chat Icon
