Coxsackie fever on Day 8 and contagious question
My DD (23 months) is on Day #8 of coxsackies. She first spiked last Friday morning. The blisters in her mouth are pretty much gone. She is back to normal, eating fine, back to sleeping.
Last night she went up to 101. This morning she woke up 99.5 and right now she is around 100.5. Her last dose of meds was last night at 8pm. Is this normal to still be running low grade temps at this point. Everything online tells the fever should be gone by now. How long did your DC have a fever for?
Also, is she still contagious? All sores are gone. The ped said she would not be contagious once she is 24 hours without fever but she is still low grade. Tomorrow we have a birthday party and I'm not sure if we should attend. Would you go if your DC looked up to it? Or do you think she is still contagious? I will be talking to my friend before I take her to party too if we decide to go to make sure she is okay with it.
If her temp keeps up I will be calling the ped but I wanted to see others experiences too.
TIA

I'm going to guess she is over the Coxsackie and on to something else unless she is re-infected. It's a viral infection so whatever meds the ped may have given you would not have done anything for the Coxsackie - that would have to run it's course.

By meds I meant Motrin. The last week I was just giving Tylenol and Motrin for pain and fever.

IMO I would skip the party. Even if the coxsackie is over she may have another virus that can be contagious. You wouldn't want to expose the other kids. But that's just me.

Just went to the ped. He believes there is something else going on with her now. The fever from coxsackie would be gone by now so something else may be cooking. Her exam was normal and they did a throat culture which was negative. So we are going to watch and see how she is.

Last time DS had coxsackie his fever spiked again on day 7 and it was an ear infection. Hope she feels better soon. I loathe coxsackie!!!

Re: Coxsackie fever on Day 8 and contagious question
Yes. Your child still has a fever. Fever must be broken for 24 hrs. Considering the contagiousness and possible severity of coxsackie, as well as the danger it can pose to expecting mom, I would stay away from everyone until this has totally cleared. That means no to the birthday party. Besides, if your childs immune system is shot from the coxsackie, God knows what else she can pick up being around other kids and adults. So not worth it.
Viruses can linger and Coxsackie stays in poop long after the rash is gone from what I remember. Let DC rest and get over this. The party hosts will understand, and more than likely be greatful you stayed away with that one.

Re: Coxsackie fever on Day 8 and contagious question
I would skip it. DD had coxsackie in June ( along with every other kid in both infant rooms) and she got it bad.
She had very high fevers (up to 106) for 10 days. Even after the fever broke I kept her out out of daycare for another 2 days just to rest and try to get back to herself.
She wasn't herself for 2.5 weeks
