Couple questions about IVF
I am due to get AF the end of this month and am supposed to start IVF. If we plan vaca for the end of October, will I run into any timing problems?
Also, when in the IVF process does DH need to give his specimen. Just trying to figure out if he's going to miss a day of work. TIA

Re: Couple questions about IVF
Well you can take a look at my journal but roughly I started bcp beg of July and my transfer is tomorrow, so just about 6 weeks. DH will give his specimen the day of your retrieval there is no way to know right now when that will be. It all depends on how you do with meds and all....good luck and FM me with questions.

Re: Couple questions about IVF
I agree with Irish the process for me was about 6 weeks. Everyones different though and it depends on your protocol. Some people are on birth control longer then others. Aldo if possible your husband may want to go to both the retrieval (this is when they need his specimen) and your transfer. My husband was about to go in the room with me during the transfer, which is usually 3 to5 days after the retrieval.

Re: Couple questions about IVF
i started my IVF last year by starting BCP on 8/29. my first beta was 10/21 and my 6w sono was on 11/6. so you're cutting it slightly close, or you will be travelling while 5-6w pregnant before your first sono. if you are comfortable with that then plan away!
your DH will give his specimen the day of the retrieval, however if your retrieval is in the morning theres no reason for him to take the whole day off of work. although he would need to bring you home since you cant really drive right after due to the anesthesia.

I agree that you will be cutting it a bit close or will be traveling when you're very newly pregnant.
Also, you have to account for things possibly getting delayed... .cysts that delay you getting started... etc. For me, I had a bad lining and never ended up transferring. That wouldn't throw off your vacation at all (it would actually make it easier!) , I'm just saying these random things are rare, but possible.. and could throw off the schedule a bit.

Would you suggest I wait until after vacation?

Re: Couple questions about IVF
Is this a big vacation overseas and is it a long vacation? For me, I get really stressed and anxious before vacations, trying to plan, pack, get to the airport on time, etc, so I would suggest waiting or asking your Dr. to coast you during vacay. I just went on vacation in the spring and that was the time of my beta. If I were to do it again, I'd do it differently.

Re: Couple questions about IVF
IVF is a draining and time consuming process. I would not plan a vacation near your cycle because there could be monitoring of HCG/progesterone after you become pregnant.
Your DH will give his specimen on the day of your retrieval. It's impossible to know at this point exactly when that will be.
