Cord Blood Banking
Is it necessary to do it multiple children? I seem to recall that siblings can use cord blood. FTR, I did not do it for my 1st son, but I did it for my daughter. Now, I'm expecting #3 and wondering if I need to do it again.

Re: Cord Blood Banking
You can use on for siblings. My problem with this is that it's a one time use. What if one child god forbid needs it but then the other needs it down the line? I know its costly at first but the yearly payment is so low. I think I am going to do it for each of my children if we are blessed with more than just our

Re: Cord Blood Banking
We are banking #3. Science is always discovering new things...JUST got this email today:
Dear Families of Cord Blood Registry,
A new clinical trial starting enrollment this month will attempt to reverse hearing loss in children. The trial, being conducted at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, is the first FDA-regulated study exploring the use of cord blood stem cells to repair sensorineural hearing loss.
Sensorineural hearing loss affects approximately 6 per 1000 children, with 9% resulting from acquired causes such as viral infection and head injury.1,2,3 Most of the time, sensorineural hearing loss cannot be medically or surgically corrected.4 In this new clinical trial, however, researchers are evaluating the safety of cord blood stem cells as a potential reparative treatment option for hearing loss in children.
According to Dr. James Baumgartner, M.D., lead investigator of the study and pediatric neurosurgeon at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, "Children only have 18 months to acquire language skills and, if a child does not hear well, they will not acquire the language skills to speak normally."
The study will follow 10 children, aged six weeks to 18 months with acquired or congenital (but not genetic) hearing loss and who also have access to their own umbilical cord blood stem cells banked at Cord Blood Registry (CBR). Read more about the trial here. If you have a child who meets the criteria and are interested in learning more about the study, click here and enter the requested information.
This marks the third such clinical trial where researchers have partnered exclusively with CBR to focus on the use of children's own cord blood stem cells for study in neurological applications.

Re: Cord Blood Banking
I've discussed this with numerous doctors. Fresh is better than frozen and there is no evidence that cord blood will be effective or useful after years frozen.
After consulting numerous doctors we have decided against banking.

Re: Cord Blood Banking
We banked #1 and are planning on banking for #2. I feel that its insurance. May not work "IF" something happens but if it can, Its worth all the $$$ in the world to me.
