cookie tins
Every Christmas I get gifts of cookies in tins from a couple of people - and once the cookies are gone, I have empty tins that I will never use. I always ask the people that gave them to me if they want them back for next year, but they never do. I usually wind up packing the tins away with my Christmas decorations, and then they just sit in the bins for years to come. I feel bad just throwing them away, but don't know what else to do with them. So, what do you do with cookie tins after Christmas is over?

Re: cookie tins
I wash them and save them for next year when I make Christmas goodies. I will also bring some with me to my sisters and moms and take home some of the treats they make. If you don’t bake, you can use them as little storage tins. Loose nails and screws, or if you save Christmas cards with photos of children - you can put them in there and label the front with the year.
If not - then just toss them. They are most likely $ Store tins.

Re: cookie tins
When I make cookies the following Christmas, i put them in the tins to give to others. Sometimes I will use them as “gift boxes”.

I was at someone's house for a holiday party and she had a bunch of them (over 20) in a really cute display by the front door. She had them stacked in various heights and had some snowmen dolls sitting on top of a few. It was a really cute look!

Re: cookie tins
This year for storage I used rubbermaid plastic tubs, the really big oval size. For giving, I made cookie trays and also some in treat bags.
Think I am getting rid of some of the older cookie tins. They are becoming a hazard in the attic.

I throw them out. If not they would just collect dust and take up space.

don't feel bad throwing them away! like another poster said, they are usually $1 from the dollar store. do you work in an office? maybe you could leave them out and put a free sign on them?

This. I don't bake so I give them to people who I know do. I have also brought them to work and left them for anyone to take.

This. I had to stop feeling bad for tossing things because if I didn't my house would be an even worse disaster than it already is.

I usually offer them back to the people who gave it to me, but if they don’t want them, I just throw them out.

Re: cookie tins
I am someone who gives out cookies in tins & I always say I don't need them back ( whic I don't, I can buy new ones), but we have one relative who will always give it back to me around Easter. that's completely fine- I say I don't need them back because i don't want people to feel obligated to clean it & hold on to it until they see me again, but I also don't want to contribute to clutter in people's homes, so I will take back, because I definitely use them.
If you don't want to give them back and you don't want to throw them out for environmental reasons, just ask around ( work, Facebook, etc) if anyone wants free cookie tins.

I wouldn't throw them away, I would donate them. Our local church has a thrift shop, and I always see stuff like cookie tins there

I'd give them away to someone who bakes or donate them.
