Cooing and smiling

What age do babies start cooing and smiling all the time? DS is 6 wks and hasnt started-. He was also 4 wks premature so I am wondering if this makes him a little behind?

I would think your DS might start this closer to the 12 week mark then since he was a bit early.
I feel like for us it was around 7-8 weeks with my kids but I don't remember with exact certainty. I don't believe it was earlier than that.

Re: Cooing and smiling

DD is 5 weeks and has started cooing and smiling a bit. Not all the time, just once in a while..I think most babies do between 6-8 weeks.

Re: Cooing and smiling

Our baby, who was born 3 weeks early, started smiling and cooing at about 8 weeks. However, since you rbaby is considered premature, you may have to adjust the milestone age back to the original due date. That being said, don't worry too much about milestones. They happen whenever the baby is ready, so enjoy your LO!

Re: Cooing and smiling

4 weeks early will definitely need to be factored in when watching for milestones.

Social smiles usually start anywhere from 4-6 weeks, which means your LO should start anywhere from 6-8 weeks.Chat Icon

Re: Cooing and smiling

DS started smiling at around 5 weeks, but with premies I know that they are delayed. I would add 5-6 weeks to your original due date and figure that's the time he should be smiling.
