constipation

This is probably TMI but I was in so much pain last night. It's not that I didn't have to go, it was just so hard it didn't want to come out (I know, I know, way too much info.) I was just wondering if anyone has felt this way and what they did to ease things along. I've been eating lots of fruits and veggies, maybe I should have a couple of prunes a day?

Re: constipation

Lots of fruits and fiber of course. I also found that exercise is keeping me regular.

Re: constipation

I have been eating plenty of fruit and I do excercise, but I guess it's not enough. I really was in so much pain last night. I was finally able to relieve myself at 7:30am after struggling since last night.

Re: constipation

Believe it or not, but water helps a lot, too. Drinking more than the regular 8 glasses a day loosens up the stool for less constipation.

Re: constipation

I had to use Metamucil and stool softeners in the beginning. My doctor said it was fine to use them and believe me, it REALLY helped.

I ate foods that were high in fiber and tried to not use anything else but in the end...I had to.

I hear that in the 3rd trimester constipation comes back so I'm prepared...

I hope you feel better.

Re: constipation

After finally getting the hard stuff out, I took Fiber Choice pills daily. They come in fruit flavors and they are chewable. I am still taking them because my Dr put me back on iron pills, I am still anemic 5 months post partum

I had constipation very bad in the beginning. Now it's not as bad but I do get my days. Feel better, it's completely normal!

I took colace to help and then I was prescribed a pre-natal with a stool softener in it. It helped tremendously.

Re: constipation

Thanks girls! I think I'm going to keep a few things in the house: Metamucil, prunes, popcorn and use them as neccessary. I hope I don't feel like I did last night ever again. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Go get some colace! All the other stuff will help prevent it but doesn't really help in getting it to go away.

Good to know. I'll have to make myself a "fight the constipation" shopping list. Chat Icon

Re: constipation

I have an iron issue so the 2 times I was PG it was soooo bad. I drank 10 glasses a water a day and took 1-3 colace a day.
Colace is perfectly safe during PG.

Bananas do the opposite, they bind you! I take 2 gelcaps of Colace daily.
