constant cough/congestion

DS came down with bronchitis the first week he was in daycare in february. We did the nebulizer and after 2 weeks he was all better.

Since last week of march, first week of april he's had the cough and congestion again. I brought him to the ped when it first started b/c he was also running a fever and teething real bad. Lungs were clear, oxygen levels were great. We continued doing the neb with saline solution.

Here we are 3 weeks later and he's still got the loose / phlegmy cough and stuffy nose. Then its a runny nose at times. Spoke to the dr. and they didnt seem too concerned b/c he's still eating like a champ, playing, happy smiling, etc. and they said its pretty normal to have this.

I dont know..i feel like this could turn into a chronic bronchitis or asthma situation.

Ds goes for his checkup next week and i will be sure to bring this up again.

is there anything else i can do for him besides the nebulizer, vicks and humidifier. Ive also been sleeping him in his carseat so he's upright and propped up his matress in the crib/PNP when he sleeps in there.

Do you think it could be a seasonal allergy. Same symptoms.

I feel your pain though. DS has yet another cold. this is the 4th cold.. he is only 5 months!!Chat Icon

My DD has had this pretty much since she turned 4 months old...she goes to daycare too-she lasted one month without getting sick and then it hasn't gone away. She is constantly congested, coughing, sneezing and runny nose-sometimes it is better and sometimes worse....there was like a week that I thought it was gone totally and then she got it again-but everytime I go to the doctor they tell me it's just a cold...I don't think there is much more you can do than what you are already doing.

Im thinking it may be b/c DH and I both suffer with it. DH moreso than me and he's suffering pretty bad this season even with meds.

Our dr. said that babies can get up to 10colds a year each lasting for 2 weeks. so they can literally have colds almost half the year!!

Re: constant cough/congestion

DS & DD& I all seem to have constant coughs. We've all been checked out, everything looks fine but still we cough.

I chalk mine up to allergies and am beginning to wonder if it is the same for my children. It stinksChat Icon

Re: constant cough/congestion

Both of my children are in the same boat. Coughing and colds for about a month now. They seem fine otherwise. Eating, playing, happy. I think it must be allergy related. And with my DS I think it is also teething related. They both go to daycare too. I feel your pain. Chat Icon I am always worried about it, but the ped never seems to be.

Re: constant cough/congestion

DS had the same thing a cold a week after he started day Care and since then constant congestion. His nose is stuffed up all night. We do the humidifier and the saline drops but not much helps on the nights that it is bad.

DS just had his well visit this past sunday and the Dr said he is fine could be allergies but they dont diagnose it this early (DS is 6 months on Thursday) i just keep pulling those boogies out and pray each night for sleep for both of us (His cough wakes him)

If it is allergies, I hope they clear up soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon
