confused about oil ...
DH and I just moved into a house and need to get oil service set up but have no idea how it works.
What exactly does the service contract get me? Is it necessary?
How do I know how gallons my oil tank is?
Do they all auto-deliver or will i need to call every so often to have them come?
There are soooo many companies - do i just go with the best price or is there something else i should consider (service / repairs / etc)?
Anything else i need to know?
Thanks, and sorry for all the questions

We alway sign an annual contract and we get the service contract too in case any thing goes wrong with the burner. With a contract you don't have to do anything - they automatically come and fill your tank about once a month throughout the winter and leave you a bill. I never really understand everything thats covered in the service contract because it lists so many parts, but they should provide with a list of exactly whats covered before you sign antything. The service contract should also come with an annual maintance check of the burner. We've always had a good experience with Perillo. We had switched to Slomins for a couple years bc they were offering a better price, but this year we're going back to Perillo bc they ha a better deal. We usually just call a few different companies around this time of year to find the lowest price. Either way oil prices are ridiculously high this year, way higher than they've been since we bought our house five years ago

Re: confused about oil ...
For us, we wanted a contract. Our contract covers an annual tune up, and a lot of other services if there is a problem.
Our company does auto fill, meaning they estimate when you should be running low (based on past usage) and come and re fill. They are pretty accomodating with it, the first year we were here i asked them to call me before deliveries so I could check the tank and they did. The people who lived here before us used A LOT more oil that we do.
