So Confused regarding Oil, please help! UPDATE

I have a contract with a company which ran off on May 30th, I did not sign another contract and decided to convert to Gas. Someone told me that even though I did not sign and send back the renewal contract with my previous Oil Company, they can and still will come and deliver the Oil because we are on automatic???

Now it is prob going to take at least a month by the time Keyspan comes and does what they have to do, so what do I do??? Call the Oil Company and say stop coming?? or do that once I know Keyspan has come and did what they had to do?

I can always call a company at the time and do COD and shop around because god knows what the company I had is charging now.

Thanks

UPDATE: So I just called and they asked why, I told them I was converting and of course they start going into the whole, Oil is better, make sure you have Carbon Monoxide Dect everywhere in your home, etc... Now I am sure they were saying this to get me scared and not to convert, but what he did say to me was that since my oil tank was underground, they have to report it by law to suffolk county and they are prob going to have to dig up the tank??? PS - I just called the Town and that is not true, I can fill it with sand

In any event, he told me unless I write a letter they are coming

This just happened to a co-worker. She didn't renew but they delivered anyway. Write a letter to the company telling them you no longer want to renew and you don't want anymore deliveries and send it certified mail with a return receipt.

I would call the oil company ASAP. Because it has happened to people, that the oil company comes by and "fills the tank" and if you have already switched to gas and the piping from the outside wasn't taken away completely, they will fill your house with oil. Very costly to clean up. So please make sure when the plumber takes the oil tank he takes the piping from the outside of the house and you repair the hole in the house or ground. GL!

I have a contract with my oil company and they will only delivery now if we call. Before prices went up, they were here when we only needed a small amount. However if you are off contract, I'm sure they would love to come by and fill you up at over $4.00 a gallon. I would definitely call them.

Call the company, send a letter to the company and also put a sign on your fill tube that states do not fill, tank disconnected. If they fill it you own it.

What does the letter need to say?

tell them that you are not renewing with them and they are not to deliver to you any longer. let them know that if they do deliver any oil that you will not pay for it. send this certified mail. make sure you get a return receipt. as far as the oil tank is concerned all you need to do is fill it in with sand or foam. make sure the fill is cut off when you do the conversion (there have been occasions where oil accidently got delivered to someone who didnt have a tank). in the meantime completely duct tape over the fill so no oil can be delivered.
