condo board question
To make a long story short....we had a leak in one of the walls in our condo-after a lot of trial and error by three different contractors (that were sent by the mngmt co) it was found that there were three holes in the brick on the outside of the building and once these were fixed the water stopped coming in. Board is now trying to charge is 225 for this so called repair saying it was a window problem and we are responsible.
DH wrote a letter to the property manager that was responded with they will bring this up at the next meeting and then went unanswered. I do not want to pay this charge since it is not our responsibility. If we do not pay it and send a follow up letter and phone call to them asking for a copy of the bill can they send us to collections? put a lien?
advice please help!

Re: condo board question
When was the meeting? They have to address the concern especially if its something that the condo is responsible for. Can you attend the next meeting? Do you know who the president is? Maybe you can speak to that person? HTH

Re: condo board question
We would rather not speak with the person since we like to get things in writing with this group of board members (we have had issues with them in the past). They do not post when the meetings are-which i believe is illegal but I am not sure to be honest. We were planning to not send the payment and send another letter as well as a phone call to them.
I am just worried about them sending us to collections or putting a lien for this if we don't pay it when we were billed for it.

Re: condo board question
What was the work done? Was brick 'repointed'? Not sure i understand what was done, so I cannot say who is responsible.

Re: condo board question
the contractor said it basically looked like someone took a drill and drilled three holes in the outside of the brick-once he plugged these holes the water has stopped coming in

Re: condo board question
Get a letter from the contractor who fixed the issue stating what the problem was - (and clearly stating it was not the window) and send that with a letter to the Management company as well as the Board... also, attach a copy of your by-laws that state what is the homeowners responsibility and what is the Condo's. Make it clear and concise that this is not your responsibility therefore you will not pay the fee.

Re: condo board question
The issue is not your personal problem but that of the building infrastructure. You should not be held accountable by any means.
