*concrete stamping?
anyone do it?
I recently got quotes for paving and OMG
I think I found a very good price but 4-5k for a patio is just a hard pill to swallow.
Concrete stamping is supposed to be half the price. It is very popular down south and it looks really nice!!
Anyone do it? or see it?STAMPED CONCRETE GALLERY

Re: *concrete stamping?
We inquired about it when we had guys come to give us estimates on cement vs. stone patios.
One guy told my DH that while it looks nice initially, stamped concrete cracks more easily and sooner than regular poured concrete.

Re: *concrete stamping?
we have it around our pool and like it......
but we bought the house with it,
so i have no idea how much it cost them or when they did it, we do have 1 crack in it but it took me 4 months to notice it because of the pattern

Re: *concrete stamping?
We've had ours in the front yard (porch, sidewalk, steps) for 4 years and the backyard for 2 years and it is far from looking trashed. Still looks brand new! But we maintain it, seal it every year... I guess if you don't take care of it like anything else it will look bad over time. If you look closely you can see some tiny cracks, and I think because of the pattern the cracking is a lot less noticeable than on regular concrete. Pic from 2 weeks ago:

Re: *concrete stamping?
My FIL is a cement mason (retired) and he did it himself on his front driveway...in 1988 and its still in great condition. it's all about the consistency of the cement, and also you should put a sealant on...but sealant can make the cement slick initially

Re: *concrete stamping?
We looked into it and we were quoted $11 sq/ft. We actually spoke to a few contractors and they all said to have the color applied ontop by powder. If the cement cracks, it is easier to go back and blend in the crack because they usually use more than one color to create movement and make it look like stone.
We ended up finding a great deal on pavers and it as less than $11 and we are going with pavers. I knew over all I wasn't going to 100% happy with stamped concrete.

Re: *concrete stamping?
My friend looked into concrete stamping. she told me that its great in the begginning. Unfortuntately living here in NY it is not ideal for the hot/humid and cold temperatures which can cause them to crack. So my friend decided to wait on their patio and save up some money for what they really want which is pavers.

Re: *concrete stamping?
My cousin owns a concrete stamping business in Staten Island and it does look great in the beginning but it does crack due to the weathers we have here in NY. Additionally, to maintain the stamping, it has to be sealed annually but the sealant makes the concrete slippery. My cousin has it around his pool and it was like walking on wet tile. Pavers are actually comparable...my dad/brother own a paving company for 30+ years and it's approximately $10/square foot which isn't that far off from stamped concrete. HTH
