Colostrum?

Something strange is going on with my nipples Chat Icon

In the very center of my nipples I am noticing what looks like a white crust and I can't tell if it's part of my nipple that just turned white or if it is like an actual crust from leakage? I haven't tried picking it off but when I wash it looks like it's gone until I am dried off. Sometimes I notice more of it but it never goes away completely. At first it was on just one nipple but now I have it on both. Could it have something to do with colostrum? I feel like it is so early though, I'm 12 weeks.

I'm so embarrassed to be asking this Chat Icon It's just really weird. Also my nipples look like they have slits in the center now, like x's and that is where I notice the white stuff. WTH? Normal?

Re: Colostrum?

sounds like they're just dry and irritated, which is totally normal.
i started leaking a few weeks ago and it was definitely wet, never have seen any dried up colostrum on myself. started out clear and now it's like a yellowy white.

yuck... that might be the grossest thing ive ever posted lol.

LMAO! I know I'm so embarrassed. Chat Icon

Maybe they are just dry. I use bio oil on my tummy and breasts but I don't use it on my nipples because I was afraid it would make them too oily since my areolas seem very oily since becoming pregnant, almost shiny! Another weird gross thing! It could very well be nipple dryness but my nipples don't hurt and they don't feel chaffed. I've had that before but maybe it's just a different kind of pregnancy related dryness? Chat Icon

Ugh, it is so freaky whatever it is.

If it's colostrum it is a yellowish color. If it's not I wouldn't be worried but maybe just ask your dr. next visit. Now for some TMI...lol. Even before preg. I had "leakage"...all the time and still do....only if expressed. I have no idea how I figured this out. Occassionally I have the same "white" that you described. According to my dr. "leakage" can be normal at anytime (preg. or not) if its from both breasts and clear/milky.

Well it isn't really white, it is more yellowish I guess, but not yellow like a banana, like an in between white and yellow color. I have an appointment soon so I'll ask the doctor.

I read about colostrum leaving a crust on the nipples but not this early on. I've never felt wet though.

Between the veins, the nipples, the pooch, the pimples, I feel like a hot mess!Chat Icon

I think it's normal. I have it too, but I would ask your doctor about it the next time you go.

Re: Colostrum?

Yes, my nipples started doing this then at about 28 or 29w they actually like chapped/peeled off Chat Icon apparently this is normal and GOOD if you are planning to BF. I was told this means your colostrum is coming in and your breasts are preparing but it IS a scary sight to see Chat Icon
