Colonics--all the rage?
So, how is this for a topic of discussion?? I was just reading some articles about colon hydrotherapy.Apparently they are quite popular in HOllywood.
It is suppose to be really good for your well being, but the procedure of course is somewhat dubious, not to mention very embarrassing! The whole thing about someone doing it to you is very uncomfortable...
Has anyone ever had one of those done? I think there are some centers on LI that specialize in colonics. It is definitely something I would be willing to try if I would ever get over my embarrassment...
Anyone?

Re: Colonics--all the rage?
A good friend of my DH's does them and I have debated this with her, but of course she doesn't agree with me...
I am really against them... too many makes your colon lazy and it can't get rid of waste on its own...
There is no need for this procedure IMO - your body knows what to do... and if anyone is really concerned about ridding the body of toxins and crap, they can go on a juice fast or a cleansing diet without something so invasive...

ITA!
It also gets rid of certain bacteria that you NEED in your intestines.
It can also be extremely dangerous and really shouldn't be taken too lightly. People need to do their research.
Then, there's also that whole issue that i have with who i let near my butthole

Re: Colonics--all the rage?
I would feel safer taking a colon cleanse or increasing the fiber in my diet rather than have a colonic.

Re: Colonics--all the rage?
If the tech doesn't know what he / she is doing, it can be pretty dangerous ...........My cousin and I were all gung ho about having it done and my DH (who works in the medical field) freaked out on me and said they could puncture my colon ..........Who knows if he was just F-ing w/ us or not, but we decided not to take teh chance.......

Re: Colonics--all the rage?
not good for you..... there's this trend these days to 'cleanse' your GI tract... either with crazy diets or by sticking a hose up your bum....
one thing you will never ever see a physician/hospital prescribe is one of these cleansing regiments.... why? well, it stresses your intestines!
your intestines are not supposed to be squeaky clean. there's no such thing as 'toxins' building up in your GI tract. Genuine toxins (mercury and other heavy metals, and pesticides/herbicides) DO build-up... but not in your GI tract. They build up either throughout your body (as in the case of metals), or in the case of chemicals, in your liver and kidneys (the organs responsible for detoxing...)
On the flip side, your intestines are supposed carry on a happy relationship with bacteria, which help us digest our food. Keep flusing them out, and you're lining yourself up to be malnourished and have messed up digestion.
the opinion of this pharmacologist? Step AWAY from the hose and stupid lemon drinks.... wanna get your GI tract mobilized? eat a large salad every day
