Actually, I was on the 7 year plan. 
I was supposed to graduate in '96, but I was having way too much fun. Why rush things!?! 
We apparently were on the same bus, though eventually I quit. I was there from 96-97. Before that I was at LIU Southampton.
One of these days I hope to figure out what I want to be when I grow up and go back to school to get my degree.

Kara, how did you go from being a film student to an attorney?
Ah, the most asked questions at my interviews! 
I must also add in that I am also a former professional horse trainer / competitor. Despite the confusion in the dates, I actually did take a year off between college and law school to dedicate full time to riding horses competitively, training horses professionally, and teaching riding lessons. (I also did this part time during college and law school) Add in the non-profit work I did and let's just say I had an "eclectic" resume. (I finished law school a semester early, so I graduated in dec '05 instead of may '06)
I was torn between getting my MFA in screenwriting (even got into USC!) and getting my JD. I decided to be somewhat practical -- I could be in debt from my MFA and be making $7/hour getting someone coffee OR I could be in debt from law school and at least be making a decent salary, even if I opted not to practice. Additionally, I could still write being a lawyer, but couldn't exactly practice law as an MFA.
So... long story short, I entered law school with the intention of never practicing law -- or never practicing for very long. My goal was to get into the business side of the entertainment industry (where I felt I was better suited), to be a talent agent, or to be an entertainment lawyer -- basically something in the business. I did very well in law school and wound up as a candidate for a big firm job. Student loan woes got the best of me, as did my interest in intellectual property law (patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, etc.), so I wound up at a top NYC firm. It's scary that I actually took to the practice of law. Chances are I will stick to my goal of not practicing law for very long, but we'll see where life takes me. I'm bound to change my path several times more before settling into something -- if I ever do!
It's funny how things work out. While I'll always write and may even delve back into screenwriting soon, I'm very happy that I did not go all out to pursue film. I will probably not practice law forever. I have SO many other things that I want to do in life and try in my professional career. (I'm a very, very odd free-spirited type-A like that.)
And I was right - I still write. Maybe one day I'll write another big screenplay and sell it off to Hollywood. Actually, I think the way life took me, I have way better material than I would have if I had gone out to CA.
It's just the perfect example of how I fight all the time between my desire to be a total free spirit and my annoyingly practical side.
If I could sing, I think rock star would be my next career move.
