Colic ?

If your child had colic, how old were they when it started? what were their symptoms? Did you put them on special formula ?

Re: Colic ?

From birth. Honestly from the time we got home from the hospital she pretty much screamed 24/7. Slept for like 20 min at a time and cried constantly.

It was GOD AWFUL

We couldn't go anywhere, we couldn't even take her on a walk because she would scream so bad people would come out of their houses and look to see what the issue was.

We switched to Gentleease with the ped's consent but I don't think it did too much.
We also used gripe water, gas drops, I don't feel like anything did much.

Try to get the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD- he explains why they cry so much at that age (he calls the first 3 months of their life "the 4th trimester") and he gives some good tips to soothe and calm them

Re: Colic ?

it was from birth
DS cried and cried, nothing helped him. i was bf and supplemented with gentlease hoping that would help but it didnt. at his 1 month appt we were told its colic and they outgrow it around 3 months. at his 2 montha ppt they said the same thing but checked for a milk protein allergy which came back negative. at his 3 month appt they re-tested him for the allergy and it came back positive to we put him on nutramigen. he got better...but no clue if it was the colic ending since they say it ends around 3 months, or the formula

either way...its no fun

Re: Colic ?

My DD's colic started at about 1 month. She was gassy, spitting up, crying uncontrollably and arching her back. I took her to my chiropractor. She made some suggestions to me about feeding positions and showed me some baby massage to do at home as well as treating her in the office. She also recommended some homepathic remedies. She only needed a few visits before her symptoms went away. I do know that some babies outgrow it but I couldn't bear to see my DD suffering.

Re: Colic ?

From the day he was born he screamed & screamed. I tried everything I could think of. Nothing helped. I don't think it was necessarily digestive issues with him. I was reading that some newborns are born with especially immature nervous systems & some are super sensitive to stimuli & that's what makes them so upset... I have a feeling that might have been his issue although I'll never know. Or maybe it was his personality to an extent because he's still a bit whiney & fussy even at 2 years old. He finally grew out of the constant crying around 4 months old & seemed happier & more relaxed.

Re: Colic ?

Basically from birth, constant screaming in pain, never sleeping more than a 20-minute stretch. It ended up being a milk protein allergy, and she was a new baby after the right formula (for her, neocate). I don't think milk allergy qualifies as colic, but that's what everyone called it. Considering people don't really know what colic is,mits hard to tell!
