is it possible for colic to start at 8 weeks?

dd will be 8 weeks thursday. the past few days she has been very fussy and spitting up a lot of formula and crying more than usual. the doctor said to give her mylanta and that seems to help. yesterday she was terrific all day but when we got to my mother in laws at around 6 she cried for about 2 hours straight. she fell asleep in the car coming home then was very fussy again at home with less crying. im not sure if she just has a witching hour, if the formula is bothering her or if she has become colic.

UPDATE: gave mylanta at 730, bottle at 8. she spit up quite a bit of formula.

Well colic usually begins around week 3 so I am not sure if that is it. Has she gotten a new formula recently?

If your ped. is telling you to give her Mylanta, he/she probably suspects your dd has a touch of reflux, especially if the Mylanta helped calm her. Honestly, I think it's worth a trip to the ped. to discuss what you can do to further comfort her (medication, etc.). I only say that because the Mylanta helped. For now, try holding her upright for like 10-15 minutes after a feeding to keep the formula down in her belly.

My DD's colic started around 6 weeks. Hopefully it's just a touch of reflux. I would look into it further. God...colic is miserable...I wouldn't wish it on anyone! Chat Icon

Yes, colic can start as early as 3 weeks.
