Clothes for babies arrival
How much clothing did you (or will you ) have for when the baby comes home?
I'm trying to stay so I've looked at a lot of neutral layette things. But what about actual outfits? I thought about buying both gender clothes and just returning what I don't need. I thought that might be easier then having to shop right after LO comes home. I'm sure at the shower we'll get some neutral things; but there won't be anything gender specific. Just wondering how to plan and stock the closet in advance. I'm due in January; so I'm sure the first few weeks will just be spent in the house in onesies and those full body sets anyway right?
Thanks!

we know its a girl so I already have a TON
in the beginning, i will use sleepers, gowns, onsies and swaddles. no real need for "outfits" IMHO.

We have a ton, i think my child can wear one outfit a day and she will never wear the same thing twice. We got everything from out shower so I would say if you can hold off until your shower to buy anything you might be missing. Also if you buy too far in advance you might not be able to return.

Re: Clothes for babies arrival
I didn't buy much before DD was born (we were team ). We got many gifts after she was born and both grandmas were thrilled to go out and buy clothes for her. I really didn't want a ton of gender neutral outfits, I really wanted to dress the baby as a or . I actually told people if they asked that I didn't want clothes until baby was here so we'd know what gender to buy.
I did get a couple gender neutral outfits at the shower and I bought some white onesies and t-shirts (although I didn't like the t-shirts and never used them). I usually prefer white onesies for layering under outfits anyway so I'd buy them regardless.
I thought I'd have to go clothes shopping after baby was born (and was actually looking forward to this) but we got so many outfits as gifts after she was born that I really didn't need much at all.

I got so so so much this time because last time I didn't have nearly enough. But we're not team green. People will buy you clothing but you want to have at least 15 outfits for the beginning so while you're completely sleep deprived and changing outfits 3x a day, you'll have enough not to have to do laundry constantly.
Kohl's is GREAT about returns and will take back WASHED clothing as long as you have a receipt. So I'd go there and get some.

Re: Clothes for babies arrival
We got a TON of clothing at my shower. The clothesline decoration along had at least 12 onesies on it, mostly newborn or 0-3 mos.
As a team baby you will get a ton of neutral stuff you may want to return (doubles even), so I would wait until after your shower, see what you want to return and then see what you need to buy.
We are doing mostly sleep & play outfits for the first few months but I am sure we have more than we really need.

Clothes for babies arrival
thanks!! I was gonna hit the stores for the holiday sales coming up; but i'll wait until closer to my due date and after the shower to see what we need. Ideally I'd like to dress a boy like a boy and a girl like a girl so I want some gender specific things for when LO comes.

Carters is having 50%. Also, penneys price on everyday sleepers is lik $8.
We know what we are having so I bought some stuff. A few newborn and 3 mo sleepers. Then some 3 and 6 mo outfits like shirts and yoga pants that are comfy for them. I only bought one jeans outfit in 6 mo.
Are you having a shower? Because people will buy you clothes too. Plus when baby arrives people usually bring clothes as gifts.

Re: Clothes for babies arrival
I was 3x. I only had one shower and got a few outfits then. I think for each child I bought one thing myself just for the sake of it. As you know, there's hardly any decent neutral stuff out there. Then they were born and...
I got bombarded with clothing!!!! The 1st was a , so I figured people like to go nuts with the girly stuff. Then the 2nd was another and we got just as much! The 3rd was a , and let me tell you, I think we got more than the 1st two combined! These kids were set up for months!
I wouldn't stress too much at all!

Re: Clothes for babies arrival
I was Team both times. My mom bought a bunch of neutral clothing, but other than that, I didn't get any clothing at my shower. Once DS was born, I got a ton of clothes from people. I didn't need to buy anything. DS1 was a December baby. He wore plain white onesies underneath either sleep and play outfits or footed two piece sets.
DS2 was born in July. I had neutral long sleeve stuff, but I needed some neutral summer stuff. Since our house is air conditioned, I was able to re-use the neutral newborn items. I also got a lot of clothing again as gifts after he was born.
DS1 was 8lbs 1 oz at birth and DS2 was 7 lbs 11 oz. Both wore newborn clothes for 5-6 weeks.

Re: Clothes for babies arrival
for 0-3 on my son we mostly used onesies and sleepers. and the swaddles.....
never used the gowns, and maybe had a couple of outfits.
plus with ds being the first, friends of dh's parents gave us clothing gifts.

Re: Clothes for babies arrival
Honestly we would have been fine with 4 of the Gerber 3pk zip up pj;s. They are our fav and our kids lived in them. WHen we have another that is all we'll buy for the 1st few months with the occasional outfit for church and outings.
