Closing Questions - HELP!
So, we're supposed to be closing on our new house tomorrow!! The attorney just called me now with the amount for the closing costs but when I inquired about who the downpayment gets made out to and to confirm the downpayment amount, the attorney told me they don't do this. This info has to come from the bank. Is this the case?? This is our first time through this process and I'm totally clueless! How the heck do they expect us to get the money together 4 hours before closing (because, at this rate, I'm not getting the money from the bank today)??
What attorney waits until the last minute to provide this information??? Ugh! I can't wait to be DONE with this process!!!

Closing Questions - HELP!
Our attorney called us the night before we closed and he told us the amount of the check and who it needed to be made out to. We got a bank check the next morning.
I don't know why your attorney doesn't know this. Try calling your bank.
It's almost over!

Re: Closing Questions - HELP!
That sounds very odd. Your attorney should get the "net available" proceeds from your lender's attorney and back into the amount that your certified check is for. He/she should also be the one (not the bank) determining to whom that check is payable. Unfortunately, it is common nowadays that the lenders get figures together last minute. I'd say the norm has become 1-2 days prior to closing. Good luck.

Re: Closing Questions - HELP!
We got our final numbers, who the checks were supposed to be made out to, and our closing statements the morning we closed. In reality, it only takes 5-10 minutes to get bank checks. We were worried too, but it all worked out. Buying a house is stressful, but this will work out; don't stress yourself too much!!!

Closing Questions - HELP!
Thanks everyone for your responses. I called the bank after the attorney told me they needed to tell me what the amounts were and the bank immediately called the attorney to tell him that it's HIS job to tell us the amounts for the checks - not the bank! Such a mess but we FINALLY got the figures we needed. Thankfully there's some time in the morning to get the money in order before closing!
I just hope tomorrow goes smoother than it has been so far.
