CIO- help Updated

My LO is 6 months old- time to move from the rock N Play to the Crib. My DH works over night so i been a little laid back about it-
DH took off this weekend so we can have my LO CIO
he needs to sleep in the crib ASAP

suggestions?
help how to pass the time etc?
(besides wine)

Update
Night 1. Not working out well
We did our normal bedtime routine. He was in his crib by 8 pm. He was screaming at 9,10 and now from 12-2 and has not stopped... I finally gave in and gave him his paci

Guess what, still screaming
Not even tired
Uggggg. I am exhausted

Update 2
Well LO slept so much during the day which didn't work in our favor
Last night he fell asleep at 7 Passed out!
Woke up at 10 and screamed till 1 am
We tossed paci in a few times but still a very long heart breaking night
DH hoes back to work and tonight is just me
Wish me luck - he is napping now and officially has his days and nights mixed up
I am on 4 hour sleep now

Re: CIO- help

I did CIO with my daughter at 6 months and will be starting with with my DS any night now bc he went from sttn to waking at 4amChat Icon

There was nothing i could do to pass the time unfortunately. i try to drown out the noise...close all doors and turn the volume off on the monitor. it was quiet enough that DH never hears them cry but of course i do. i just sit and watch the monitor making sure they are ok. if it goes on for a while i try to take out my phone and play on it to try to distract me. It was a long 3 nights with DD but so worth it. we did it on a friday night so we didnt have to worry about functioning at work on no sleep

eta - does your LO sttn in the rock n play? if not, i would hesitate to do both the crib transition and CIO all at once.

That site is the best! Definitely check it out before you do it to get some suggestions on how to make it work.

For us, we played wii as a distraction and while I had the video monitor next to me I tried not to check it too often. I'm sure sitting there staring at it would be torture. GL!

Re: CIO- help

We are starting CIO on Friday. DS will be 6 months on the 25th. I can not continue to function like a zombie every single day. DS' new trick is that he is impossible to put down to sleep for the night unless he is in the exact right position. For the last 3 nights, once he wakes up in the middle of the night he refuses to go back to sleep in his bed...

I sometimes turn off the monitor now and close all the doors, but I can still hear him cry (while DH sleeps completely unaware.). I am still on the fence if I want to do a modified version of CIO.

I have twins & failed at 6 months. We did again at 8 months & that is when we kinda had luck. It is hard but just keep telling yourself it has to be done & no other way

we are in almost the same boat
my LO starts off well in the crib, then after 3-4 hours its all down hill...
Good luck :)

CIO- help

What about a gentle alternative to CIO. We did the sleep lady shuffle (drawn out for a lot longer b/c I just wasn't comfortable with it) and I thought it was a lot less harsh than CIO? Maybe look into something that you are comfortable with and he won't be so in shock with. We took our dd out of the rock and play the same time and i slept in her room for three nights with her. It was really tough and sucked but in the end i think it help her transition better than just leaving her in a huge room and a huge crib and letting her cry by herself.

DH had more of a tolerance for it than I did. I would obsess about it and stare at the monitor. He was okay with turning the volume off and checking it less frequently.

I used to get in the shower. Between the shower and the fan in the bathroom I really didn't hear anything. I would take longer showers than I ever have in my life. DH would come in to the bathroom and tell me when it was over and then I would get out.

It was the only way I could stop myself from going in to her room.

Good luck!!! It worked well for us.

I started with naps in terms of crib transition but maybe you've already tried that.

Re: CIO- help

For my 1st I waited too long to transition to the crib and she was a bad sleeper so i feel your pain.

I think what I did was the Ferber method unknowingly and it was painful for me more so than for DD but it worked and took a while.

I just took DD 2 to the ped and he asked me how she was sleeping and this one sttn very early but now is waking more than usual. He told me it was around that this time that she would do that more often. I dont know maybe they go thru a transition at 6mo that makes it harder for them to sleep solid.

Good luck

Re: CIO- help

I did CIO with both my kids at 7months. The longest either of them cried was 24 minutes (I timed it!). It was totally ok. You get through it and they learn fantastic self soothing and sleep skills. Wine helps!
