Christmas morning traditions

Normally, we sleep at my sisters house since we don't live locally. Last night, her DD caught a stomach bug. I was like ok, we'll stay at my parents. Well, my other sister got a stomach bug last night too - she lives with my parents.

As of right now, we've decided to hold off on going down tomorrow so we'll be spending Christmas morning at our house. What things do you do to make Christmas morning special? My DS is 2.5 and doesn't really 'get' Santa yet, but I'd love to start some traditions.

At 2.5, both of my kids got Santa. Do you leave presents from "Santa"? If not, I would start doing that Chat Icon We wake up, open presents, have breakfast, play with everything and that's about it!

We've gone over that Santa brings gifts and I labeled a bunch from Santa. I think it won't really click what we mean until he gets to open presents.

You can also read a Christmas story before bed tomorrow night and my kids love to track santa (we call the NORAD number and a live person answers). Of course leave cookies and milk out, and maybe some carrots for the reindeer!

I love being home ands relaxed Christmas morning. Take your time opening presents and let him play with things as he goes. At 2, it took forever for dd to open everything bc she wanted to stop after each one. Her docking along took forever. I would just enjoy it!

My 2.5 year old definitely understands the concept. She knows santa lands on the roof and brings presents.

I prep a stuffed French toast the night before and put it in the oven after opening stockings but before we open presents. Some presents are from santa and some from us.

We just open presents in PJ's while Christmas music is playing, let the kids play with their toys, and have a special breakfast. This year I plan on chocolate chip pancakes with fruit & sausage, and hot chocolate to drink. The kids will be up between 6:30-7, and we don't have people coming over until 3. So we have lots of time to just hang out! We do 4 pm children's mass on Christmas Eve, so we don't have to worry about rushing out to church that morning.

We put on our fireplace, and some xmas music. Record dd coming down the stairs xmas morn to see all her gifts... I have French toast baking in the oven... we are going to have a relaxing xmas morn this year having our parents over for dinner and so happy to not be traveling anywhere. My dd can just play with her new toys and not have to rush out of the house.

Re: Christmas morning traditions

We put out the cookies and milk for Santa the night before and my ds, who is 2, made reindeer food in nursery school which is just uncooked oatmeal and glitter, and we put on the lawn the night before. The morning of I put the baked french toast in the oven and we open presents in pjs and play. If you plan on being home all day, maybe make cookies with her or make the cookies and then let her put m & ms or chocolate chips on them. For ds I'll frost the cookies and then he can put the sprinkles on the frosting.

Night before cookies and milk out for Santa and reindeer food on lawn. Dd wakes us up and has to stay in her room till we tell her to come out. We did the same when she was 2.5 last year. Recording her reaction to seeing all the presents is priceless. We open presents and just relax. Dh usually makes a big dinner whether it's just us or if we are having guests so we just enjoy our time together.

My DD wakes up before the sun, whines in her room until we get out of bed exhausted and begging her to at least let us have a cup of coffee before she starts tearing into her gifts. I put a shot of Bailey's in mine.
She then proceeds to rip through 20 gifts in about 5 minutes. She then wants to open each toy, play with it a bit, then open the next one and repeat. DH and I proceed to spend the rest of the morning cursing at how they tie every toy up with 75 zipties making it nearly impossible to break loose.

Then we eat some breakfast .

We have a huge breakfast and then open gifts. We do hide the pickle so whoever finds it opens the first gift!

This sounds a lot like our Christmas morning, minus the Bailey's. I realize I need to add in the Bailey's, great idea! Chat Icon

I learned to take the stuff that is zip tied in and parent proof out of the packages before wrapping! Well, in our case, we don't wrap, but before stuffing in the santa sacks. So much nicer on Christmas morning. I bought my DD a kitchen from American Girl. I'm so glad I opened it early. 100 pieces to unwrap! so annoying!

AND if any of you bought Our Generation doll items like the Diner, camper, etc. I would take that crap out of the box NOW! It took me 30 minutes to do that diner one year!

Thanks for the tip : ) We have the Diner this year. Maybe I'll see how much my husband helps out today before I say anything and if he is being a PITA I'll leave it for the morning lol.
