Christmas lights on outdoor trees?
Anyone do this before? Could I see pics?
I have a weeping birch tree at the end of my driveway (pic below) that I've always wanted to decorate, but I've never done a tree before.
I see other lighted trees around and it looks like people just put on one or two strands and it always looks half-done to me. I have an extension ladder, I think it maxes out at 15 feet, so I could get pretty high.
I was thinking of wrapping each strand around the trunk, then out to a major branch (I think there are about six now) then let it hang down to the ground like the branches do. Here's the tree:

If you can do the whole tree, I would do it-it looks so pretty!
I wanted to do our tree but it's too big and I wouldn't be able to do the whole thing.
I don't like it if the lights don't go all the way up-looks half done, as you mentioned.

I have a small tree that I don't do lights on but I use fishing line to tie shatterproof ornaments on it.

Re: Christmas lights on outdoor trees?
We have a weeping japanese maple on our front lawn. DH wrapped the trunk in white lights and then did the top part of the tree with those net lights. The whole tree is covered. It looks awesome!

Great ideas! I could use garland and ornaments too... I didn't think of the net lights either. Are they in a grid? The tree is really uneven so I don't know how that would look.

I have done a similar tree.
I twirl up the base, then pretty much trace each branch with lights, then go back again, repeating each branch. I secure the lights to each branch with cable ties here and there. Came out amazing. Dont have pics on here, this was a few years ago.

We do the same. It looks very neat looking and not sloppy.
It looks so pretty when the entire tree is illuminated.

Our tree is uneven too. It actually looks even with the lights on it. DH draped the net lights (he used several sets) over the top of the tree and it looks great.
