Christmas Bonus
If you were leaving your employment by the end of the month, would you expect a Christmas bonus for the year? It usually amounts to one week's pay.
eta: There is no contractual obligation for the bonus.

Christmas Bonus
Yes. But my company bonus is based on a specific time to a specific time. If I was still there during that time I would expect it.

Christmas Bonus
Probably not. That's why most people don't leave jobs until after the new year, or fiscal end of year and get their bonus.

Re: Christmas Bonus
I know a few people who got laid off a few months ago and their company gave them their bonus.

i currently work for a family-owned company - less than 20 employees. i would not expect it working here. if it were a larger company, i would expect it.

Re: Christmas Bonus
We don't have Christmas bonuses at my company, but we have a policy for our quarterly merit based bonuses that you have to be employed on the day it is paid out to get it.

if they are aware of you leaving then no. When i was in finance, no one left willingly until after bonuses were given out.
those who were let go/laid off a bonus is always included in their package.
i guess it also depends on the industry... and your position in the company

If I was still actually employed by the company on the day they gave out the bonuses, then yes.

Re: Christmas Bonus
At my DH's company the bonus checks are distributed at the end of January, if you leave or are laid off prior to the checks being cut then you do not get a bonus.

Same here but we get ours in March. If you leave before then you do not get a bonus.

Depends on your severance as I know some people who work with you and get their bonuses even they have been gone for months.

I assumes the post was not referencing a severance deal though, doesn't sound like a layoff. I am assuming this was as if you left the job on your own accord, say for another position at another company.

Yes, basically if you gave notice before bonus was paid you didn't get it. My coworker gave notice a WEEK before pay out and he didn't get a penny.
