Christening v 1st Birthday Gift
Would you give the same value gift to someone for a 1st bday that you would for a christening assuming the family was not having a christening but did have a big 1st birthday party?
Good friends of ours came to our daughters christening and gave her a generous monetary gift. They are now having a 1st bday party for their son at a restaurant , (they have not and are not going to have a christening for their son.. ) . would you give a bday gift of appx the same value for the bday as they did for the christening?

Re: Christening v 1st Birthday Gift
No, I would give what I normally give for a first birthday.
To me, a religious celebration is bigger than a birthday, just like a wedding is bigger than a bridal shower. If a friend was having a bridal shower, but was planning to elope and not have a wedding reception, I wouldn't give her a larger bridal shower gift because of it.
Maybe I'm just mean.

I agree for this I probably would give something close to it.
but normally I would never give a gift based on where a party is located. I give the same amount for wedding, christening, bday etc no matter where it is being held at.

Re: Christening v 1st Birthday Gift
I would give the same. And I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I think a 1st bday is a big deal. DH and I are interfaith and not overly religious. We had big 1st bday parties for our boys and no religious ceremonies.

Christening v 1st Birthday Gift
In this situation YES. They aren't having a christening, they gave your child a nice gift, and they are having the party at a restaurant. This is their child's big party.
