Christening help/opinions
I really did not want to do the whole catering hall/DJ thing for the baby's christening. I wanted to do a simple dinner after the church and be done with it. I just made the guest list which consists of immediate family only and mine and DH's best friends and it's freaking 95 people, 20 of which are kids under 12.
So here is what my questions are: 1. Is it rude to not invite children? (I already know the answer to that one... I'm just throwing it out there) 2. Purely based upon numbers, is having just a dinner out of the question? Do I need to have a party, party? 3. Can anyone recommend a place that will accommodate that many people anywhere from Amityville to Oakdale, preferably along the south shore? I'm looking for a place that's full service - not one that I have to bring in my own catering, etc. 4. Does the 20% "no" response apply to christenings the way it does to weddings?

Just my family and closest friends will be a lot of people also so I feel your pain!
You can have it in a restaurant and just do a dinner--no DJ or anything. I think that is what we will do

i think you can nix the DJ...just look at it like a "shower" type event. sit down dinner with just socializing. and yes i think there will be a percent that says no, in the end its still an event and people will be busy ya know.

I think it would be rude not to invite people's children IMO

And I know it too. I'm just being a nudge. I just wish I could figure out a way to cut the list so I could have more like 40-50 people. This is so annoying.

What about someplace like Irish Coffee Pub? They have a couple of big rooms where you can have a dinner...you CAN have a DJ/band, but you don't HAVE to....

Re: Christening help/opinions
Our baptism will probably be done at 3, so I'm making it earlier like 3-5 and more like a luncheon so I don't have to do the whole DJ thing. My family is huge too, but they are all out of state, so they probably won't come to this.

Sucks that you can't cut the list down anymore...maybe you can look into local italian restaurants and such if you wanted to do a luncheon...they usually have pretty good prices...that is what we are doing...make a budget and try to stick to it...good luck!
