Christening Gift Idea - Moms please come in!
DH and I are attending a Christening and rather than give a check, I was thinking about buying a china place setting from Tiffany's as a keepsake - they have some really nice patterns. Do you think this is a nice idea? I wanted to do something more thoughtful and I think they would appreciate it . . . thoughts?

I would only do this if you know its something that the parents would want. I would never use something like that so while the thought would be nice, and I would certainly appreciate any gift...it would just collect dust.

I used my place setting that someone bought me, Beatrix Potter, every Christmas breakfast till I was about 13 then my 1 year old sister took over b/c no one bought her one. I also received a cross that still hangs in my childhood room.

i love that you want to do a thoughtful gift - i would do a cross to hang instead ... as a parent, I would not find the place setting practical.

As a parent, I love the thought behind it, but know that I would never remember to actually take it out for the child and use it.
It would be something that, for me, would collect dust.
Do you know the parents well? How would they feel about this?

I think it's a nice idea, but I'm not sure of it's practicality...
What about a "piggy" bank or a jewelry box....those can both be used to store other gifts, and will grow with the child.

Re: Christening Gift Idea - Moms please come in!
I think that is a great idea. My daughter is having her christening in 2 months and that would be a lovely gift for her to receive. Money wouldn't be a bad idea either but with a gift like that, she doesn't get to appreciate it as she grows up. We are working on invitation ideas for her christening. I heard the idea of using fridge magnets as the actual invitation. Has anyone used magneticmessenger.com? I would be interested to hear some reviews. Thanks for the help!

I'm not a mom but I did buy this for my friend's daughter's christening. She hung it in her nursery.

I'm more of a fan of a practical girl, maybe a savings bond?

Re: Christening Gift Idea - Moms please come in!
Thanks for all the input! We are close with the couple - our DHs were in each other's bridal parties and they grew up together. I feel like they have money, so I thought I would try to do something different and "high end." I feel like if I had a LO, I would like it as a gift, it would be thoughtful and meaningful . . . I just don't know what to do!!

I would not buy a cross. DS received 2 one from each grandmother.
