Christening

If you are having one- when are you planning on doing it? How old will the baby be?

Some people I know have done it right away (within the first two months) and others have waited until 4 months or so....

Re: Christening

With my son, we waited until he was just about 4 months. Probably do the same this time around.

Re: Christening

We are doing it when the baby is 6 weeks old. Not ideal, but my boys will be turning 2 then and we are having 1 combined party for both events. (We have a lot of family coming from OOS and they can't come 2x).

With the boys, they were 4mo when we had their christening.

For DD, we had her christening when she was 3 months. It wasn't easy on her so I think I am going to wait a little longer with this one. Maybe closer to 5 months?

Re: Christening

My DD was 9 months old when she was baptised. We waited until the Spring/June to do it, and she was born in October.

This time we will probably do it in June as well. It is a good month because we can host the celebration in our backyard. Since we are having a March Baby, he or she will be 3 months old when they are baptised!

Re: Christening

I think we will end up doing it when the baby is about 3 months---- only because, the more I think about it- I'd like to get it done before I return to work. I'm due the end of June, so I'm hoping we can still count on descent weather for September so that we can use our backyard for the party.

Re: Christening

The pastor of our church would like all babies to be baptized by a month old, but my baby is due in May I think maybe July or August I will have the christening so the baby will be about 2-3 months old. My niece/goddaught who was born in June wasn't baptized until October so she was about 4 months old. Depends on when you get around to it!

Re: Christening

I initially just wanted to do it in my in laws backyard since their house is doewn the street from the church and the yard is nice and big.

I am realizing though that by the time I rent tables, and chairs, get paper goods, cater it and get beverages, etc it will end up being only slightly less money than if I had it somewhere like a hall. And I have to set up and clean up.

Leaning towards a hall/catering place.

What are you ladies doing?

most likely at a restaurant, when the baby is 3-4 months old

Re: Christening

DS#1 was just about 5 months old when we baptized him & this baby will be about 4 months old. My brother & his family live in another country, so we schedule the ceremonies around when their visits are.

We also considered doing a backyard party this time, but like you figured it would cost almost as much as a party at a hall/restaurant & that it wasn't worth all the effort or work. We had family & friends last time so we used a hall, but this time I'd like to do something MUCH smaller (family only) at a restaurant...I'm just trying to get my dh on board.

Re: Christening

I'm torn about this bc I want to have baby baptized in my church in NY and I live on the west coast and since I'm taking all of my vacation time, I would like to do it within the first 12 weeks since Im off but, I feel that that is too early. My other option is to wait until the holidays and then she will be 5-6 months old! So....IDK!!!!

Re: Christening

We'll be doing doing it in July or August so he'll be 4 or 5 months. We also were thinking of doing it in the backyard and for the same reason decided against it. The savings would be minimal and all the extra work isn't worth it to us.
