China Cabinet Display
So we FINALLY have a china cabinet - it is being delivered this week (we got it from Thomasville).
Even though we have been married for YEARS - my fine china is still sitting in the boxes and i have no idea where to begin but I'd like to display it in as nice a way possible. What do I need to purchase to display things and any tips on the "design" itself - is there a standard way to do this? Sorry so clueless and TIA!

Re: China Cabinet Display
I don't think there are any steadfast rules for this. I could be wrong, though. I used to have on the top shelf in the back 2 plates (in the plate groove) with the platter in the middle. In front, I had the gravy boat, the butter dish, s & p and a vase. On the 2nd shelf I put 4 plates and then cups & saucers in the front. I also had some of XMIL's cranberry glass pieces that I used throughout
When I got all of the family milk glass I put away a lot of my china and displayed the milk glass using some plates and the dessert dishes. I kept some of the cranberry glass and some of the china pieces out. The butter dish is so cute I had to keep it out.

Re: China Cabinet Display
Here's an incomplete pic of mine.
I have the dinner plates in the grove and then I have the accent plates on a stand in front of it.

Re: China Cabinet Display
you know its funny b/c there is this cabinet that we like but its not really a "china cabinet" and i was thinking the same thing - exactly how would i display our things? i like the black b/c all our dishes and platters are plain white....
i noticed that when things are staged they don't usually have all of the 12 settings displayed - its usually just a few settings and then some platters and little accent pieces - so if we get something that is probably what i'll do as well, i wouldn't want it to look cluttered....

Re: China Cabinet Display
sorry but it's the only pic I have from Christmas time.
I only displayed 4 because we don't have a full china cabinet, only a cabinet in our kitchen. I stacked all the other plates. Put out some of the glasses, all the other glasses are away. But you get the idea. Just keep playing with your pieces until you like what you see. GL!

Nik, you already know this is my piece. We didnt buy anything to display our china, just leaned it up against the back and organized everything as best as possible
