Childcare Options
As of now I will be going back to work full time on 11/26. DD will be 2 days shy of 2 months. DS is 5 1/2 & in full day kindergarten.
My only options (as of now) are:
(1) Put DD in full time daycare Mon-Fri from 7:15am - 5:30pm and have DS goto same day are for before & after care M-F. Cost ~$1100-1200/month for both
(2) Put DD in part time daycare (they are willing to work with DH's rotating shedule) varied days but times would be 7:15am or 9:00am to 5:30pm on days DH works. DS goto same daycare for before & after care or just after care (depending on DH's schedule). Cost ~$800-850/month
I am not thrilled with having DD at day are for such a long day. I'd love to have someone watch DD at our home, but after looking briefly on sittercity.com there is no way we could afford a nanny/babysitter.
Having family watch DD isn't an option as we have no family out here where we live (Calverton). MIL (closest relative) lives by Smithaven Mall.
I thought of taking DD to MIL's house, but it's out of our way. DH works in Queens and my job is about to move from Hauppauge to Bay Shore.
Any suggestions?
Someone suggested putting DD in a daycare by my job, but due to the move I don't know of any reputable places by new office location.
PS I am very happy with the daycare we would use out here as DS went there since he was 15mos.
TIA!!!

Re: Childcare Options
The cost isn't much higher for FT. I guess if it is too much juggling, FT would be best for you.
Finding a sitter/ nanny has been impossible for us. We have looked for a long time, I would lean toward daycare

Honestly, if you can swing the higher cost of FT daycare I'd say go with that. DH has a strange schedule and we tried flowing with it for a while, but DD really thrived on the schedule daycare had set and was so much better once we just sent her FT.

I agree with this. BTW...that is a great price to have DD in FT and before/after care for DS.

Same here.
If it makes you feel better, some days DSs are in daycare from 7-6:20... It kills me but, I know they are in good hands and having fun.
ETA - It's also easier on me knowing that they are going to daycare at the same time every day - I felt like I was all over the place with the alternate scheduling!

Re: Childcare Options
I personally think FT is better b/c they will both have a set schedule and know what to expect each day (wake up time, prep times etc)
Mine are in daycare 3x a week from 6:45 - 6:00

Re: Childcare Options
I would go with option #1. Most kids love daycare! I also like consistent routines. It makes life easier for all!

Re: Childcare Options
I agree I think the FT option would be better too. My DS goes from 8:30 - 5:30 as well, he's 3 now and has been going there since he was 3 months old...I still have days where I feel guilty that he is there all day but he has so much fun and they do a lot of activities during the day. Plus, really it's all he has ever known. I've never been home with him full time so he really doesn't know any different.
