child care cost
Hi!
What is an average cost of full time child care?
I checked out a place today that I loved, but it seems a bit high. $78 a day. About $1500 a month.
Any thoughts?
I live in East Islip and work in Dix Hills if anyone has any reccommendations.

Gulp! Thats a lot of money!!!
eta...mind you, I live in England and pay £30 a day, which is around $55 a day...so its probably not that expensive!

I don't know if I can help since I live upstate (Westchester/Putnam border) but we pay $1070/month. They were the cheapest, I think, for the hours we needed. The most expensive was $1150. That was for M-F 7am to 6:30pm. That's for a facility not a home daycare. I think most home daycares charge b/t $200 and $250 a week, some $275. I have a friend in Melville who charges about $225 or 250, I forget which.

My son went to Prime Time and it was great there!! Clean, nice teachers, and we never had any problems. This was about 5 years ago.

We pay $245/wk ($980/mo) for DS, 10 moths old. They also supply all of his food. I only have to bring diapers and wipes. That's for and 8a-6p day.

Actually, you have to pay for extended time at Tutor Time. If you drop off early, it's $85 more per month
5 days at Tutor Time from 5 - 6 is $1100 per month (that's for 6 weeks - 18 months). It goes down to $1,040 for 18-24 months. Again, if you need to drop off before 8:00 a.m. or after 6:00 it's $85 more per month.

I pay $60. per day for my son for 3 days a week. I live in Rockland and we use a daycare center in NJ

$1500 is a little on the high end if you are talking about a daycare center. If you are talking about a Nanny or sitter that comes to your house FT - then that's a fair price.
Daycares average around $1200 on LI.

  Which is why I moved out of Manhattan to start my family. 
On another note, my gf lives on the UWS and pays her nanny almost 3K/month ($725 a week  )
