Charleston is fabulous! So many great dining options and things to do/see! I go there frequently for work and have vacationed there many times!
As far as dining...
Fleet Landing is a new favorite, it's right on the harbor, so you can watch the boats, and many times see dolphins going by.
Blossom is downtown and is another new favorite. There are 2 other sister restaurants in the chain, Magnolia and Cypress...they're all on the same street, very close to each other.
I had appetizers at Poogan's Porch the last time I was there, I wanted to have dinner, but was too full from lunch.
Kaminsky's is a great place for desserts.
We had breakfast at Toast and it was delicious.
The fried green tomatoes at Eli's Table are amazing.
Drinks and appetizers at Market Pavilion are great, it's a rooftop bar/restaurant, so you can see the water.
Things to do...
If you're interested in doing a boat tour, I highly recommend Tideline Tours on Folly Beach. Captain Anton is fabulous, I've been on the tour many times, we always see dolphins and Captain Anton points out many of the other animals, plants, etc. living in the marsh.
Tideline Tours
Definitely plan to spend some time at the Battery/Waterfront Park. It's gorgeous and I always see dolphins in the water.
If you're into history, you can't go wrong, there's just so much to see and do. Carriage Tours, Boat tours, etc.
As far as places to stay... it really depends on your budget! I like the Charleston Marriott on Lockwood, although it is right outside of downtown, so it really depends on where you want to be. I've also stayed at the Charleston Place which is gorgeous, but pricey. The Renaissance is also very nice.
I stayed at the Mills House last month. It was nice, but not my favorite. They are currently undergoing renovations, though, to be brought up to Wyndham Grand standards.
The Embassy Suites by the airport is very nice, it's about a 10-15 minute drive to downtown from there, but it's across the street from an outlet mall.
I've also stayed at the Charleston Harbor hotel, and while not right downtown, they have a shuttle that runs downtown frequently.
I love, love, love Charleston so I'm happy to answer questions if I can, you're welcome to PM me if you'd like!
