Central air

Can someone give me an estimate of about how much it is to install a central air conditioning system? And please give recommendations for a great company that does this... Thanks!

Re: Central air

We paid about 10K (not sure if this included the rebate). Our unit has 2 stages and is 18 SEERS. We needed all the duct work installed.

Make sure you gets quotes from several vendors and to read about what you are getting. Know what you want bc that makes comparing things easier. When deciding on the efficiency of the unit (the more efficient the more expensive the unit) think about how long you plan to be in your home - if it's your forever home then go all out but if not, figure out how long it would take you to make up what you are spending up front on a more efficient unit.

Eg. We were decided between 18SEERS and 20 SEERS (or 21, not sure). So we looked up the manufacturer info about how much energy the unit uses, looked at our LIPA bill to see how much we pay per (watt or whatever the unit is called) and figured out how long it would take for us to recoup what we would be spending up front for the more efficient unit. For us it was about 7 years and we don't plan on staying in our home that long so it didn't make sense to spend more for the 20 SEER unit.

Hope I didn't confuse you.

Re: Central air

Thanks for the info! I know absolutely nothing about these systems, so that is helpful. Chat Icon

I'm just trying to get an idea in my head of about how much the whole thing would cost me.
