CBEFM - High vs. Peak?
does anyone know what the difference is hormonally?? like at what levels does the monitor go from high to peak? is it just LH or does it detect estradiol levels or other hormones?
this is my second time using it. the first time was on a medicated cycle and I got about 12 days of high readings before O, and then ran out of sticks. i never got a peak but i didnt see it through the cycle so i dont know if i would have or not.
so far this cycle i got a high reading the last two days. so im thinking that ill prob get a bunch of high readings again? i dont know if I will actually O this cycle, but i did test with OPK as well and it was nearly stark white so I'm pretty sure my LH isn't high or surging right now.
anyway im blabbering but i was just curious if anyone knew what hormone levels cause the change from high to peak. TIA!

Re: CBEFM - High vs. Peak?
i think the monitor detects two hormones....your estrogen and LH. the high readings are a result of the estrogen rising and the peak readings are a result of the LH surge. i guess our estrogen rises leading up to ovulation, but i don't know at exactly what levels it detects it.
i've only used mine one month (and then we took a cycle off) but i got 3-4 high readings before i got a peak. it may not give you as many high readings this cycle as it did last cycle. good luck!!!

I'm not sure either about the hormones but I just wanted to say that this was my first month too using CBEFM and I had 3 high readings followed by 2 peak and then one more high.

Re: CBEFM - High vs. Peak?
I thought the high fertility days are the days that you have a high change of getting pregnant (bc the egg is almost where it should be) and the peak is the best day you have a change of getting pregnant bc the egg is there.
that was my understanding of it.
My AF is just about due on the 17th... once it comes I'm going to start using it. And that means posting lots of questions about it. it's confusing and I heard you have to follow it exactly according to the directions.
ETA: I didn't see you wanted the hormone information. Sorry about that.

You buy the monitor and a box of testers. You set the monitor within the first 5 days of your cycle (the first day being the best I think). then you turn the monitor on each day to see if you have a testing day. You should have roughly 10 tests to take per cycle. You take the test and you insert the stick into the monitor (with the cap on) and it reads your levels. The monitor will tell you, low, high and peak fertile days so you know when to get busy!!! it's better than an OPK because that just tells you the peak days and not all the other days you get from the CBEFM.
is that right ladies? It's my understanding of it. i was a lil confused when i read the instructions.
It did say at times you may end up having to use more than 10 sticks per cycle depending on other occurances. There's a lot of instructions included. but knowing when your fertile days are DEF helps to become pregnant. It's better than guessing when they are. And I don't think I'd be a good temper. So for me this was just something I wanted to give a whirl. It is pricey and you do have to adhere to specific instructions, including testing within certain window time frames etc.

Re: CBEFM - High vs. Peak?
without meds i have high LH so OPKs dont normally work for me - since the monitor detects more than just LH i feel like i have a better shot at having SOME clue about whats going on.
also i am using metformin for the first time this cycle and i have a feeling it's had a positive effect on the LH, my OPK's have been pretty white (which is a good sign in my world). so im just wondering if i can trust the monitors results.
thanks for all of your responses!! id love to hear everyone's experiences with the monitor!!

Pretty much - yes. That's what I read in the booklet and what SIL told me (she was successful on 2nd month). But I should mention that I have never been on BC and have always had very regular cycles.

That sounds about right to me. If you go on their website, there is a demo you can watch to get an idea of how it works and how to use it. I found it very helpful

Re: CBEFM - High vs. Peak?
from what I understand, high reading detects your estrogen surge, and peak detects your LH surge

Re: CBEFM - High vs. Peak?
the CEBFM detects both estrogen and LH.
However.... if you have PCOS, the CEBFM could also not give you accurate results. My RE told me to forget I had it, because just like the OPKs with PCOS, you cannot rely on the results.

OH WOW!! AWESOME!! I didn't know that at all!! I'll be sure to do that. I have my box all ready to go! AF is due as of tomorrow. no real signs of it yet.... but I HIGHLY doubt I'm pregnant. I'm fairly certain I am not... so I'm anxiously awaiting AF's arrival so I can start the CBEFM!!!!!! I misplaced the pack of batteries I bought for it though... so I need to buy new ones. :( THANK YOU!!! And sooo awesome to hear it took 2 cycles for your sister for it to work!!! AMAZING!!!! Let's hope that's the same way for us too!!! OR LESS TIME!!!!!
