cat help....please!
Ok, I have 2 cats...Gunnar, who is almost 18 years old and Scout who is almost 4 years old. I also have a baby, Lily, who is almsot 1 year old. We have Lily's room (and our room) upstairs and we put a gate at the top of the stairs to keep the cats out....Scout figured out how to push it open, so we have been locking it. We were fine for a while, but Gunnar figured out that he can jump over it now. Is there any way to keep the cats from jumping over it? My other problem is that Gunnar has been jumping onto the kitchen counter and hanging out in the sink, which is gross. How can I keep an 18 year old cat on the ground? Shouldn't he be too old to do all of this jumping and nonsense?!?!
I welcome and and all suggestions!!!

Re: cat help....please!
i know for the jumping on the counter they make a device that lets of a noise only cats can hear and it startles them and they then dont jump up on the counter. I dunno if it works 100% with ALL cats but thats worth a shot
I dont know about the gate jumping though that is hard. It is their nature to jump high
Maybe you can use the same device near the gate so a sound will go of and they know not to go there?

Well i don't have too many suggestions for you, but i know you can buy a scat mat for by the sink to keep him off that.
As for jumping over the gate, can you stack 2 gates on top of one another? (We had to do this for my dog since he could get over the one).

I was going to suggest bubble wrap. We used it on our kitchen table, and our cat learned pretty early that he was not wanted up there.

Yeah, I know! He's lost some weight recently and was acting a lot older, so I was mentally preparing myself for the end. And then he laughed in my face and started behaving like a kitten! He's going to outlive me at this point!
Thanks everyone for the suggestions...I'm afraid of scaring him with any noise things though...I don't want him to fall and break a hip!

He does it when I'm not around though....he likes to jump over the gate while I'm sleeping. Then I wake up with him breathing/spitting in my face.
