If there was hardwood already I would leave it and add an area rug.
If I had to add the hardwood or change the carpet, I would just get new carpet. DD's room has carpet and I like it that way!

i like an area rug in a kid's room/nursery. it gives you comfy carpet and freedom to change your mind

I'm not a fan of carpet in general, JMO. Our whole house is hardwood. We have large area rugs in both the kids rooms.
I agree. I plan on using area rugs.
