careers and ttc/pg

i am very sick of my current work situation. prior to last week when dh said he was ready to ttc, i was sending resumes and connecting with old contacts in hopes of a job change. ever since we decided to try i feel like maybe i should just stay at my current company, despite a not-so-great work environment. i am worried that if we do get pregg then it will reflect negatively on me if i am at a new company or interviewing. and im also worried about benefits and maternity leave if i change jobs....we also are thinking of moving to north carolina next year when our lease is up. so part of me thinks i should suck it up at my current job until then.

obv with the economy as it is, i might not have a choice but to stay at my current job. but should the opportunity arrise, i think i would change jobs despite my fears, ttc and/or being pg..


any thoughts or opinions on this topic??

I know that this is a tough decision to make and it's ultimatley up to what you and your DH decide is right for your situation, but I also know that staying at a job that you are THAT unhappy at will lead to added stress on your body and emotional well-being. I think that if you wait it out and things do not get better, you may find it harder to switch careers when you are PG or right after you have your baby. Good luck with whatever decision you make!

I'm in a similar situation, so here are some There's no easy answer.

You give up FMLA if you've been with a new company under a year and need to go out on maternity leave. This can be a issue if you get pg right away; not so much if you are trying for a long time. Stress of finding a new job can mess with your cycles as effectively as the stress of staying at a job you hate.

Weigh your options, figure out what your priorities arem and have a long talk with DH to see what's right for you. Good luck!!

We are also on the same boat- I want to switch my school (im a teacher) but afraid that will look bad for me at a new school. DH and I decided we will both apply and whatever happens happens. My work environment isnt exactly ideal right now either...

i was unaware that you lose leave and other benefits if you are with a company less than a year . that stinks. is that NY State only?? i just applied for a job in Philly. DH and I have discussed moving out of NY for a long time.

anyway my job situation is a weird one. it has its perks and i love my coworkers and i used to love my actual job. recently they split my department into two and although i got the position i would have wanted, they took away a lot of the creative part of my job that was the actual perk. plus my boss and i started off on the wrong foot cause she had a really weird negative view of me that is unfounded. all of that combined with the fact that overall company management has always been awful, has lead to a lot of personal stress and just wanting out and wanting a fresh start.

unfortunately i make only slightly less $$ than DH - so my income is nearly as important as his is. at this point staying home post maternity is likely not an option although i wish it was. we also kinda decided from the get go that jobs and situations are always uncertain, just cause life is uncertain. why continue to delay what we want out of the personal side of our lives due to instability in the world?

so i guess that lead me to tonight when i decided to apply for this position in philly. it would prob be more convenient for dh and i to wait until at least september to try, but i think we are going to just "See what happens" this month anyway. right off BCP it may not happen anyway. which wouldnt be the worst thing (remind me i said that if i get my first BFN...)

if you have read this far thanks - i know i sorta rambled. but because we arent telling people we are ttc, i have no one to really talk to about these things. hugs to all of you in similar situations.
