Car seat experts- I have a question

I just took the cover off of our Chicco KeyFit to wash it. When I took it off, I noticed the tape that holds the styrofoam to the plastic was split on one side. So the styrofoam is no longer attached on that side. Is this something I need to worry about? Can I put new tape on it? Do I need to buy a new seat? The seat is almost 5 years old, but doesn't expire till next July. TIA!

Take pictures, call chicco. Depending on the severity of it they will tell you to replace the seat, replace the Styrofoam or retape it.

Also, a quick question- you took the cover off to wash it, did you wash the straps too? If so, how?

Thanks, I'll contact them. I did wash the straps, but just by hand with warm water and soap.

As long as they weren't saturated and submerged in water they're fine. If you did I would ask about getting a new set of them when you call.
